I heard of "Iron Butt" rides, but that's a bit over the top.  ...And in High heels, no less.

Alright now... this I can get in to! There's several artists whom I really dig that are familiar but there are some who might not be so. For now here's some stuff of mine- only last one is recent; no masterpieces but just school exercises. Familiar images to most.

OK, here's a guy, Bob Freeman, whose work I find very inspiring. Sadly he's passed away. I learned about him in the pages of Octane magazine a few years ago. He considered himself a mechanic first and surprisingly didn't think of himself as an artist. He was an avid motorcycle enthusiast. Read a short bio here: http://www.bobfreeman.co.uk/Content/thoughts.htm and see more of his work.

No2w that you bring it up, it seems I know several bike owners (and mechanics) who are into artistic pursuits.  The biggest collectore of British antique bikes I know (Paul D'Orleans)- and he rides the beans out of every one- is an interior designer.  Jeffro is a commercial artist and builds Moto Guzzis.

Even though I have made some money here and there, I just like to putz around.

Uncle Ernie, I like your gestural sketch. One of my favorite gesturals is one by Picasso; his girlfriend-artist Francoise Gilot. I'm increasingly surprised these days by what I find myself liking. My tastes have expanded a bit.

Didn't know what I do has a name- I just like to do a quick draw on stinky little pieces of paper I find at the time.  Usually- there's very little time because I like to be invisible.

Colour gives me the willies.  Never took a colour photo until I got a digital camera.  The idea of painting a whole picture like you and that other guy does- incomprehensible to me.  Maybe that's why I like poster kinds of guys like (Born To-Lose) Lautrec- simple lines and graphic colour.

I'm a fan of Lautrec. There's a movie about him (maybe several?) filmed in 1952 called Moulin Rouge with Jose Ferrer. A dramatic interpritation of his life- entertaining. Gave me the desire to try absinthe.

Line drawing is my background. It's all we had the money for when I was a kid and it's as you mentioned a very immediate thing. Rather than complete tests in school I drew. Of course I wanted to save the drawing so exams rarely were turned in. Many well known and IMO great artists did line drawings but no one took those seriously except works by the Renaissance biggies.

Kilmt is a real favorite of mine but it seems his drawings aren't as well known. Check him out if ya haven't already.

Drawing doesn't get the respect it should but I think that's been changing.

A couple of G. Klimt's drawings and different approaches. Ol' Gustav liked the ladies. Much of his stuff is what you might call erotic and might not be able to post here even under the guise of Art. I could post so much of this guy's stuff, like I said- I'm an admirer, but don't wanna get carried away. With line and gestural especially it's as much about what you leave out as what you put in. BTW spikey... I like your stuff as well. Just for fun or what?

Just wanna throw this in. William Bouguereau is hugely inspiring for me. To see his work in the 'flesh' is unforgettable and I suggest right clicking and enlarging this image.

Nice work getting posted here, lets see some more.
I always want to get back to being a full-time gallery fine artist, and I will someday, somehow. Maybe give it a go part-time SOONER than LATER!
Some abstract landscapes and, of course, motorcycles (strange bedfellows, eh?)

I think line drawing is gaining respect again. Seems like everything tends to go in cycles. Portraiture, illustration (a dirty work for art snobs), and anything else you can think of goes in and out of favor in the hoytie toytie high falutin ladie da world of artsy fartsy. It's only recently that automotive fine art has achieved any respect to speak of. While autos, trains, planes, motorcycles, all have been subject matter for a long time it was often not considered worthy among the elites. Thankfully that's changed.

Anyway, what media do people use and why? Pencil, oil, pastel, charcoal?

thats very true,

when i was studying i was really into the human body (mostly the female ;D)  thats where my talent lies

as far as that , i really like colored pencil.  and although i didn't dabble too much i was a big fan of charcoal.  the shading with charcoals was fun because you got to get "in there" and use your fingers instead of the pencil

i think you just might of re-kindled something here Ecosse

Lately I've been playing w/ art pens (magic markers) in a variety of primary colors. Did my BFA and had 1st exhibition in lithography. Painting in acrylics or oils is probably the most traditional and will always be at top of the heap.

 :D

As much experience I've had with pencil I'm sort of new to colored pencil. Strange. Charcoal is kinda new to me and struggle with it... sometimes a lot. The Harley dirt track racer I did is colored pencil. That was a quick thing I did because at the last minute the instructor shot down the idea I had. Doing loose work is not my usual thing either, must be a control freak or something, anyway I'm starting to like it too.

I always was attracted to the human form too. What a wondrous thing it is... especially if their name is Jessica Alba. ;) That, and machines.

These two I did with charcoal; one on the right is colored charcoal and the left one is literally a door.

How do you like the pens so far? A challenge for me is always the transition to new media. So far I haven't gotten the hang of acrylics. I miss oils.

I like it! Kudos for having the guts to do a jacket. I'd like to do something like that one day.

Some people swear by acrylics. A professor of mine switched to it from oil because after a life time of oils the odor began to affect her. I haven't warmed to it yet but hope to.

Again, someone with more courage than me... I, whatever. A ball point pen?!

I'm liking this thread more as new material comes up. Sure is interesting to see another facet of the SOHC hoard.

I like reading too what pushes our art buttons and all that stuff too.

Have to throw in the BMW Art Cars! Some were blaa but others were pulled off successfully.
Calder

Warhol

Honestly, there may be better examples but I had to pick these as much for what models they are (3.0 CSL & M1) than anything else. I'm so weak.
