I'm doing another sort out of old magazines and came across this ad from Cycle, June 1981. I wonder how the overtones would be accepted today?

I doubt that today they would be considered overtones. Some younger ones might not even get it.

I remember those very ads! Pretty cool!

Right around then, early to mid 1981 must've been the first Cycle magazine I bought with my very own money, rather than thumbing my older brother's old copies.

First issue I bought tested the Honda CR250R and the Suzuki GS850G.

Even though the overtones are there, it hardly compares to the 'right-out-in-yer-face' advertising of today. I mean, heck, they're both fully clothed!!

Never mind the Ads! How about Chuck Berry and the rest singing about "sweet little sixteen" and "hey little girl in the high school sweater"? These guys were not teens when they performed these classics. Try and get away with that now.

There's another song from the 70's but don't remember the name. Part of the chorus goes "... have a drink have a drive..." and also "... if her daddy's rich take her out for a meal, if her daddy's poor just do what you feel..."

I miss the days before political correctness. Calgon take me away...

I just did a search for an old 80's Honda ad we had i Australia but i couldn't find a copy. It went something like "get something big red and throbbing between your legs get a honda XR"

The Australian deejay on 2UW? at that time did an ad on radio "girls, get something hot & throbbing between your legs........hop on a Honda"
