Greetings from Springfield, MO!
« on: December 21, 2008, 03:56:19 AM »
hello everyone, my name is Austin, and i hail from Springfield, MO

now hopefully i dont get shunned from the forum for what im working on :D

my little bobber project is a 1980 CB750K DOHC

i have scoured the net for a dohc forum to no avail, and found this one with a TON of useful info that i can closely relate to my bike.

heres the story of the bike,

it was bought new in St.Louis mo in may of 1980, was rode every once in a while for 4 years, and then stored in a barn covered for  15 years when it was bought by the person i got it from, he also mainly just stored it after having the carbs worked thru and getting her running again, the bike currently has 5,300 miles

what i have into it: $0.00

you see i traded a jvc dvd headunit that i gave 100.00 for, for a gocart, then traded the gocart for this bike and 100.00 cash, so free bike :D

she runs and drives (rides?) but the styling is NOT my style at all, so cutting and modding begans after xmas.

here she is in her current state:

Welcome Austin,

Any free bike is a good bike  ;D, Even if it has one too many cams  ;)

Us SOHC'ers are spoiled with this forum, but I'm sure one day a DOHC forum will start up somewhere.

With the amount of members we have on here, I'm sure there are a few who know a thing or two about you model of Honda.

...Just be sure to post your questions in the 'Other Bikes' thread here: http://forums.sohc4.net/index.php?board=10.0

Otherwise, you might get a SOHC answer to your DOHC question  ::)

yea, i figured info would be pretty close between the bikes, the weird thing to me is, with cars people always go crazy over the dohc motors, but this bike is a completely different exp. what are the pro's/con's to a dohc over a sohc?

I believe that DOHC motors tend to also have four valves per cylinder, and the desire to have a DOHC engine is not for the extra camshaft, but rather the better 'breathability' with more valves. Other than that, I can't see there being an advantage to more cams  ;)

Welcome to the site Acid, a lot of people on the site have bikes other than the SOHC variety and can probably help you with your problems. One of the things I have learned so far is that letting a bike sit for long periods of time without being driven is one of the worst things that can be done. Be careful about purchasing sitters, sometimes you can be better off buying the higher mileage bike- at least you know it was used on a normal basis.
