small problem...
« on: December 22, 2008, 05:32:26 PM »
well so i received my new oem throttle tube b/c my old one was broken, and now my throttle isn't as smooth as before. when i take the tube off the bars and do it freely it works awesome, so i came to the conclusion that the tube is obviously rubbing too much, but has anyone had this problem w/ a brand new one? do these things need to be fabed to work properly?

i've never had this problem w/ the 100's of dirtbike throttle tubes i've changed and this shouldn't be any different i would think... maybe its a CB thing?

...you say it spins freely on the bars with the cable disconnected?  If thats the case, then its not rubbing.  The machining is not always clean when they come from the manufacturer.  May need to run a file in and out of it a few times to knock some burrs off.  Also helps to run some greese on the bar...

Depending on the model, ther earlier bikes had a small steel clip that was pushed against the throttle tube to control the friction, sort of a cruise control adjusted by a large knurled screw on the bottom of the control pod. Check that the clip didn't move out of position or is binding on the tube.
