I find it funny that some people think that if they are building a "cafe" bike that it HAS to have some sorta checkerboard graphics and the word "CAFE" on the side of the tank.

I usually eat sandwiches and drink coffee on my cafe bike...

So in my case, it would be appropriate  ;D

I've never found the squared strip of checkerboard very asthetically pleasing on the natural curves and slopes of our or even any beautiful bike. I did mine to try and compliment the curves of my bike. But I suppose to each his/her own ;)

Don't know if you can see it in these pics, but it may be another option for people.
Cafe Racing is mainly a matter of taste. It is an atavistic mentality, a peculiar mix of low style, high speed, pure dumbness, and overweening commitment to the Cafe Life and all its dangerous pleasures. I am a Cafe Racer myself, on some days - and it is one of my finest addictions. ~H. S. Thompson~

And I would be one of those. And again to each his/her own. ::)

Hey man, no need to do the roll eyes thing.
As I said you can checkerboard your entire bike and tattoo "cafe racer" on your kuncks for all I care. All I said was I am a fan of less is more, and if you build a Cafe bike people are gonna know it's a cafe (dont have to tell them with a sticker on the tank). Why people feel the need to put labels on things I do not know..

Real Cafe's have WiFi! ;D

I think checkered, black paint, silver paint, rat rods, etc... all have been to death from the international/internet perspective. But, if you're one of the few, or only one in your town with such a ride then it's a different thing. Personally, if I see another silver car or bike on the road I'll snap- it's like red about 10 or 12 years ago. On the other hand if someone hands me the keys to a silver 1962 300SL I'm not gonna spit in their face.

In general though ProTeal I agree with you. How many period pix from 195? do we see of some bloke's Norton with Cafe plastered all over it? To each their own, some really look just right!

JAG, being seen on your bike would definitely move me up the 'cool ladder'!

My question now is what will happen to Mr. C when Hope finds a screaming deal (she always finds 'em!) on bump stop seats?!

I kid because I love!

HEY PROTEAL- I started putting stickers on my car so I can find it in parking lots.

Now come in close to the monitor so I can squeeze your face.

Now- say, "chubby baby"...

My '68 Road Runner had bullet holes in it for the same reason.

Are you serious?  Have you never done that with kids?

I happen to agree with you about all that stuff.  Carpy probably builds a great bike, but his aesthetics of mixing Greek and rococo with pop-art is just a bit over the top for me.  Still- he's giving people what they like.  Just takes all kinds.
I believe I may have been have been doing something to Micky... I forgot how that Brit expression goes.  Pulling your leg, here in the 'States.

That's it- but I think it's "taking a Micky" in polite company.

Well, politer, if I may coin a word.  (More politer?)

Yeah, I thank, if I'm looking for a good price on something, I'm going to ask hope because there is a knack for finding them. 8)

As far as the topic here, I (myself) don't care for the checkerboard and wording, BUT I will say that jag has a his 750 up real proud with the way that HE did it. If I did it, it would have folks coming up with their checkers and wanting to use my bike as their "checkerboard"! Some folks have a way of doing things up, that it wouldn't matter what they used. ;)

       I DO like this:

                                    Take care, Bill ;)

Checker pattern not on my bike. No way. But I do add it using reflective tape to my helmets. Wonder what that makes me to be???
