creative choke solutions

Bought a 77 cb750k with a broken choke knob.  PO used a pair of pliers to pull up the choke; he just kept pliers under the seat and used them to pull the cable up whenever he started it.

I'd like to come up with a better solution.  I read somewhere about someone using a bicycle gear lever to do this.  Any other bright ideas out there in SOHC4 Land?

One thought I had was just to replace the carbs with another set off of a 70-76 cb750.  I believe that those years all had the choke lever on the side of the carb body.  Does anyone know how interchangeable these carbs are?  That way I could get rid of the choke cable all together.

And you don't buy a replacement choke cable because....?

The knobs work ok. They do a good job in setting the choke and such but I have been looking for something mounted closer to the grip. A lot of bikes now have the choke on the left grip and you operate it with your thumb. Maybe check out some new bikes for ideas.

....because I'm an idiot.  ;D  And because of a couple (not so good) other reasons:

1. I like a minimalist set of controls/guages...that's why having a choke lever on the carb body is appealing...
2. I was curious if there were any more interesting ways that people on this forum had dealt with a similar issue; didn't find anything of the sort when I went searching...
3. For whatever stupid reason, the thought of replacing the choke cable never even crossed my mind. :-[

When I pull the choke cable up, it keeps slipping back down...Maybe I should just attach a pair of vice grips instead of pliers and keep pulling the damn thing up. ???  So much for minimalism.  ::)

Yep.  Any clue if the earlier carbs are compatible with my K7?
