« on: December 23, 2008, 02:41:01 PM »
sold my old minolta 5d for a sony a350
nice digital slr that has a point and shoot screen if you want
all my minolta lenses fit right up
14mega pixel instead of 6.2
only thing i don't like right now is my minolta had a extra fine jpeg setting and this one doesn't

Ah, chasing the mega pixels, eh? I have a Nikon D100, now virtually obsolete, and decided to take a break from the DSLR world and have gone back to film, including a 4x5 view camera. I might get back to digital when 40 Meg is affordable.  ;D

I've been using a Nikon P5100 12 megapixel point and shoot for about
a year now.--I have an accessory wide angle diopter.
I believe everything Nikon knows about photography is
contained in the software and hardware of this camera.
Of course, on my vacation this summer to Maine the battery did crap out !
-so I carried a high tech lump around in my pocket for a week.

still shoot film
got a nice minolta maxxum 7 that doeas a great job of shooting film
almost bought a medium format for $650
but the 14 mega pixel will do just about the same job and i don't have to worry about film
even the 35mm is getting hard to find unless you want chinese film

My comment about 40 megs was an exaggeration. I would love a Nikon D3x (24.5 meg sensor roughly the size of a 35mm negative) but sadly, $8,000 is a little out of my price range. I still shoot digital and the D100 will produce a pretty decent 8x10 if you are careful making the shot. On the film side, I only shoot B&W and that film is readily available. Kodaks TMAX variants are great, but post that to a film photography forum and it's the equivalent of an oil thread here.  ;D

Phil,

Not familiar with your camera model, but the D100 has a proprietary battery pack, so no stopping to pick up some AA or AAA batts for it either. I ran into the same problem once and upon returning, picked up a spare pack so I rotate them for use and charging. Being a tad paranoid, we also have a small inverter we keep in the car so I can charge mine and the wife's Canon Elf batt on the road also.
