Gas Tank Question
« on: December 24, 2008, 01:12:22 PM »
I am wanting to do an electrolysis rust removing inside my tank. I got everything removed except there is a plastic tube/screen where the petcock goes into that wont come out. Any suggestions how I can remove that?

That tube is just pressed in.  I use a series of screw drivers and needle-nose pliers.  If you have snap ring pliers with the pins facing out, try that.

Keep at it and you'll get it out.

If you take care of it.
What do you have to do?
Lot’s of things. You’ve been watching me.
Will you show me all of them?
Sure.
Is it hard?
Not if you have the right attitudes. It’s having the right attitudes that’s hard.

I have used an "Easy Out" before with some luck.
Just enough in so that you can get a bite into it and then i put the other end of the "easy out" in the bench Vise. I Then tugged on the tank till it came out. Just dont screw the thing in too tight otherwise you will just be applying pressure to the sides and you will actually make it more difficult to remove.

With gas tank upside down lube the plastic filter with wd-40 and use the needle nose to gently pull it out. If you are patient and careful you might get it out with minimal damage. I always use a new petcock with o ring you can get it from honda direct parts.. google it. Petcock kit will cost about $25, make sure you clean the the tank before you install the new petcock. Use the "The Works" toilet cleaner look in the faq section for details. Peace !!
