Comment on Cheng Shin tires. The price is right but what about the quality? Looking for tires for my cb750

In all the tire threads, I have never heard of that brand? What is "priced right"? I know bridgestone spitfires are about 60 front and 7o rear in some places.

Speaking of Cheng Shin, as of this year, they're no longer selling street tires in the US, so we won't be able to argue about them any more....

Tires Unlimited website (tiresunlimited.com) still lists Cheng Shin tires as well as other lower priced tires that are probably OK for an everyday rider.

Tires are not something to save money on, buy cheap gas, go another 200 miles before changing your oil, patch a side cover back together, paint with a spray can, but don't cheap out when it comes to tires. Where the rubber meets the road can make the difference between riding tomorrow or lying in a hospital bed today.

They're hard, slippery and wear quick...and I might just buy another set before they stop selling them in Canada

Any facts on why they're no longer going to be available in the states? This is the first I've heard of this.

If we are talking chin chen I have them on my 360. A himax on front (metz clone) and it has always stuck good for me. The hymax on the rear would slide out when pushed hard in a corner. It was gradual though so you could ease up on it. When I needed to replace the rear went to the baracuda. So far it feels good but dont have many miles on it yet.

To answer Matt's question, I had read that they no longer were going to manufacture motorcycle street tires.

I started that thread a year ago, it lasted for months! All kind of opinions between crap and honest product for the price paid.

Anyway, I bought a front ribbed Cheng Shin tire and ran it last summer without problem.

In the bicycle world we always replaced the N in Shin with a T. Cheap tires are what they are, cheap. I am running one on the front of my K8 only because it was brand new when I got the bike. It is hard and slippery but it gets the job done. When it is toast I will definitely replace with a Metzler, Avon or something similar. If you don't toss the bike around to hard in the twisties, a cheng #$%* will probably be just fine for general riding, but I have never bought a pair for a bike I was keeping, only when "new tires installed" would help sell a bike. Ya get what you pay for with tires more then any motorcycle part if you ask me.

Ya know I just noticed that Chen shins are not on JCwhitney anymore but there is another brand with a similar name...Shinko?

I put a Cheng Sheng on the back of my 1982 CB650SC back in September, and it seems to work as good as the Metzler it replaced. But then my last bike was in 1971 and so the cheapest tire you can buy today, is better than the best tire you could get back then.

YMMV.
