After seeing those pics, it made me start looking for an old Atlas 100 my step-grandpa used to have when I was 12-14.  Gearing was N,1,2,3,4,N,1,2,3,4 and around again.  We used to pic up the rear, wind it up in 4th and drop it for a burn out, lol.  Could not break it.  I think he bought it from Montgomery Wards (Similar to JC Penny's).  Searches show it to be made by Gilera I think.  No pics of it found though.

Kewl pics you added there!
I don't have a motorcycle, sold it ('85 Yamaha Venture Royale).  Haven't had a CB750 for over 40 years.

That 1st one was either a Scout or a Warrior and could have been from 49' to about 51' or maybe 52' (can't remember the last year. I DO know that in 1953' the only TRUE Indian that was still made was the Chief (80 c.i. of engine). ;) My Dad took engine parts of a Warrior and a Scout and built a bike similar to the 1st one shown here, only my Dad used a Mustang (not a car) gas tank, an up swept 2 into 1 exhaust and also the rear section of an AJS frame (with a swingarm setup) to build a tough off road bike that would blow Triumphs away (either on or off road! ;) I just wish I could find some pictures of it.

You are right Frank, that 1st one brought back memories of my Dad's bike.  8) ;) There's kind of a "killer" side though. You see, when my Granddad died, there were lots of parts still at my Granddad's shop and I remember alot of parts being there for those bikes (the Warriors, Scouts and Arrows/they were one cylinder versions of the Scout & Warrior style engines). I had always thought that ALL THOSE PARTS were sold to someone like Sam Pierce or Floyd Clymer or some such. I only found out recently, that ALL that stuff was loaded up and hauled to be sold for SCRAP! Considering the value nowdays and what could have been built from those parts, I was sick! I had NO idea that that was what had happened. :(  Now don't anyone get the idea that this thread has saddened me and feel bad for starting it because, my feeling for those motorcycles has and will ALWAYS be there! 8) ;)

Hey Bill, Check out the front wheel closely. The hubs were large on one side just for the brake and small on the opposite site. They had brakes, but I doubt that they were very good by today's standards. ::) ;) Oh... and also, the rear brake was on the same side as the sprocket too! ;)

Now that ya mention it that makes sense. That mass one the right is bigger than a hub needs to be for just bearings.

Guess they were putting their faith in compression braking huh?

Nicely done bike though.

Compression Braking? The brakes were set up like usual except the shoes just weren't very wide. They were inside the hub a typical shoe/drum brake. Of course they weren't expected to go as fast as the ones later on down the road. ;)

I remember in the 70's going to a bike shop and seeing one of those 2 stokes.  Later thinking back on it figured someone just slaped a indian sticker on something.

And understandably so Terry.

sorry, i meant engine braking. just like the old cars i worked on the brakes stayed firmly 50 years behind the times and the engine put out quite a bit more grunt. good times...

How about a 1916 Indian Power Plus with TWO engines?

Oh and Bill, on that "Compression Braking", I guess I was "Day Dreaming", I thought you meant with a band around a drum of sorts. ::) I should have known. :-X Sorry.

Bill, these two take the cake! But shouldn't the first one be a Power Plus-Plus? ;D I'd love to hear it run and see how they pulled it off too.

man, what clean lines on that warrior! really, i wouldn't change anything.

just noticed on the twindian the routing of exhaust for the left side- cooking the carb(s) maybe? obviously the one responsible for this creation has forgotten more about engineering in the last ten years than i'll acquire in my life time. but, i couldn't help but wonder if they could've just reversed the left side jugs?

          Pretty nice looking ride. 8)

To be honest about it, I just hadn't thought about it myself. Good eye Bill! ;)

Now, look at this TT Warrior. I'll try to find better photos, if I can. I've seen some before, but don't remember where they are. :(

is that more or less indian's take on the sportster concept?

with a name like 'tt' one hopes it has sporting intentions.

also, do these smaller indians go for prices obtainable by mere mortals?

Well, I don't really think that the TT Warrior was Indian's version of the Sportster. The TT Warrior could be taken out in the boonies pretty easily and, with the lights off, could be taken to the track.

Those Warriors,Scouts(the vertical twin) and Arrows (the 250cc Single) usually go for less than the Chiefs, V-Twin Scouts, the military models (741 & 841) and especially the Fours. I just got through deleting an Indian Warrior off of my ebay watch list yesterday, sure wish I'd have saved it so I could have shown you an example. I'll try to keep an eye out. ;)
