end of an era...
« on: December 28, 2008, 04:27:55 PM »
i don't think i've ever started a topic in this forum, but i have to vent and this seems like the right place...

i've been in my shop for 5 years or so, and currently share it with 7 other people, mostly friends of 15+ years. there are a ridiculous number of SOHC4 bikes there, as well as lots of smaller hondas, some brit bikes, etc. we have had a good thing going on for a while now... compressed air, paint booth, beablaster, parts washer, welding equipment etc.

last friday, the building was sold and on christmas eve the new onwer gave us until the 1st to be out.

this is of course very illegal, and if he touches anything a day short of 30 days from his notice he will have a serious lawsuit on his hands...to say the least. but it is a real bummer. we have had a month to month lease for a while, so the eviction isn't totally unexpected, but 8 days? during christmas and new years? did i mention that portland just had the worst snow storm in at least 10 years? seriously, what kind of black-soul lowlife scumbag piece of #$%* does that? and adamantly insists that he has a right do do so...

anyway, R.I.P. DOOMTOWN RIDERS workshop. we loved you. please focus all your ill wishes on this developer trash, and may his businesses crash and burn and he spends the time in hell he deserves.

thanks, guys. my roommate is a lawyer, actually. he can't represent us, but he did some case-law research and he is clearly trying to break the law. i'll go down that path if i have to- believe me- but for now he doesn't seem to give a rat's ass what is legal and what isn't. i think he's bluffing, but i have a few tricks up my sleeve as well... i'm a contractor- i made a few calls, and he has pulled no permits for the restoration he's planning first of the year.

Too bad about losing the place, but these things have a way of working out. You'll probably find a new place soon enough.

After looking at the pictures, you have my sympathy.  That will be a b!tch of a move.  When I look at my shop, I shudder at the thought of the next move.

seriously, what kind of black-soul lowlife scumbag piece of #$%* does that?

One that owns the property?

the new guy just bought the building a week ago...

i never agreed to 8 days notice, nor should anyone. the laws requiring 30 days at least are there for a reason. believe me, i'd have signed a 5 year lease if i could have, but at an earlier point the lease ended with the manager running off with 10K in rent and the owner took over directly with a month to month lease. i'm sad to leave, but i'd suck it up and deal with a proper 30 day notice... it's the one week christmas present i have a problem with.

Paul- That really sucks, but I'll bet you do have ground to stand on regarding 30 days notice. As far as the title of your thread, Era's just end. Sad fact but it's true. Some buddies of mine had a shop 20 years ago, man we had fun, but things change for whatever reason. Life's just like that I guess. Move forward Bro.

I'd bet you've got some decent legal ground to stand on. Look up local renters law and renters rights in your area. I was in a similar situation years back and I managed to get a lot of info and help from the county. Good luck!

If he's done any research he will know that he is trying to pull a fast one. Stand your ground, but do have an escape route in 30 days!

...well, my search so far has been: christmas eve, christmas, the day after christmas (many places still closed), saturday, and sunday. not such a good time to be looking on short notice. i know i can figure something out within 30 days... no way in hell all my #$%*'s gonna be out by thursday, and i plan to defend it.

That's bad Paul, sorry to hear about it. If you really want it to be an "end of an era", send me the airfare and I'll bring a box of matches...............  ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

If you donot actually vacate the premises, does that not warrant the owner to contact the authorities to come and request that you leave?  What I am trying to say is that to have one of them come to ask you too leave, does that not take about 90 days?  Warding you with a bunch of extra time.

I think this was the case when I lived in So Cal many years ago.  It took that amount of time before they would come out.
I don't have a motorcycle, sold it ('85 Yamaha Venture Royale).  Haven't had a CB750 for over 40 years.
