It's raining Honda's, what would you do?
« on: September 29, 2005, 10:18:24 PM »
Hey All,
I have a chance to pick up a 80 CB750 decent shape $500. He is a Jeeper and I would like to trade him a Dana44 for an XJ. Cost me close to nothing. Also I just talked to another guy who is looking to get rid of his 76 CB750. I'm leaning towards the 76 what would you do? The 76 is owned my a mechanic at a dealer.

Dana Corporation. They make driveline componets, Jeep has used them in their vehicles for a long time. Dana 44 is an axle, its stronger than the stock axle they put in Jeeps.  XJ is the body style of the Jeep Cherokee, crazy Jeep folks use it.

Ahh, I have heard of Dana, they make diffs and axle stuff for the Jag market here in the UK.
Btw, how much does a CB 750 sell for where you are?
Why don't you have both!!! You only live once..
Cheers,
Jim.

76 all the way. The DOHC stuff hasn't really garnered a following like the SOHC. Makes them cheaper to get, but price isn't everything. Grab the '76 and be happier.

Parts are also much easier to find for the 76, especially if you're into chrome...

I talked to the guy today and agreed on the 76. I'll have it next month.  ;D
Kixx007 nice XJ. Mine is a 93 3.5RE super flex. I'm running 31 MTR's now and love em. locked in the front and posi in the rear. Here is a shot on Holy Cross trail.

Nice Jeep. You're very lucky being surounded by such great wheeling (oh and riding for your bikes).  Here in Michigan the wheeling isn't that great, unless you enjoy smooth 2 tracks, and sand.  Mine is a 93 XJ, ~7" of lift.  Rustys Coils, RE lower control arms and drop brackets, Rustys rear leafs, and alot of other RE stuff.  Gears and lockers are next on the list.  Along with the stroker motor.

Back on topic. good luck with your new 750! Hope it brings many miles and smiles.

i would have to disagree about the popularity and support of the DOHC Hondas

Have a look at this website...

http://cb1100f.net/

It's well supported and informative

Of course my choice at present would be the SOHC but i'm biased

I've owned DOHC hondas in the past and they're great bikes.
CB750 K1 - undergoing restoration (on hold)
CB750 K2 - Wanted - More time to work on her
CB1300S - the most awesome bike i've owned yet
Z1000 1977 - Wanted - a head in rebuildable condition
