Hello from northern Illinois
« on: December 21, 2008, 09:35:58 AM »
Hey guys,
It took me a couple weeks but I found you, I knew I couldn't be the only one crazy enough to buy a 32 year old motorcycle, and take it all apart just for fun! Here's my story; After racing dwarf cars (Motorcycle powerd 5/8 scaled coupes and sedans from the 30's 40's) with my brother for 15 years, I decided it was time for a break and sold all of my racing equipment. Boardem set in very quickly, so we decided to find some of our favorite old bikes that needed a little help, and start to play. 5 weeks ago my brother found a 79 750 dressed, that needs lots of work, and 2 weeks ago I found my 76 550. Mine is in pretty good shape, but my fun will come in turning it into a cafe racer. In the mid 70's our Dad, a carpenter/contractor took a job as a manager at the local Honda shop during a building recession, so we grew up with bikes like these in our garage, along with xr dirtbikes, atc's and even the coolest scooter ever, the Kick-n-go! Like they say: The more things change the more they stay the same! We are in the middle of a recession, and we got the same motorcycles in our garages! So glad to be here, this is my first bike project, and I have a million question, and  I bet you guys have all the answers!

Welcome from the NC Smoky Mountains! Yes there are many here mad enough to want to restore and ride these old Hondas. Don't forget the before and after pics!

I'm not from around any lake, but I'm south a bit in West Chicago, "....the garden spot of America"  ::)   I do occasionally go riding up in your neck of the woods.
Welcome to "the club"  8)
