back from hunugary, pannoniaring.
it was hot, 34°. but we had fun.
there was a 5 hours endurance race. each team was allowed to inscribe 5 racers with 5 bikes. we had been 4 riders and 4 bikes. most of the racers had modern supersport bikes, R1, GSXR, 1098er ducs.........but there was one team to defeat: our friends starting with guzzi too, but with more modern ones.
our bikes: one raceguzzi, the same we had in Spa/Francorchamps, one slightly modified LeMans1, one guzzi V78 year 1972 (front and rear drumbrakes!) and my egli.
to tell it short, our raceguzzi did 15 laps and then losing oil into the clutch and onto the rear wheel. this was what made us loose our battle. one bike lost, we had to race with the other remaining bikes that had been not fast enough.
besides two practice sessions on monday, in the race i did one turn á 13 laps with my egli. the bike run fine and was the fastest in our pit, but i did not want to ruin the engine again (there was some work to do as retightening cyl bolts and crankcase bolts. there was not enough time to do it before, the bike was more in a breakin period).
the only trouble i had, was that the engine looses some oil from the thin cylinder walls, what is known with the extreme big bore kits. but this did not effect the drivability in any way. the other issue is, that i would like to consult a friend (chassis expert) of mine, to improve the front fork spring and damping system. in fast turns the bike tends to chatter a little bit, i believe it comes from the front end.
we lost our battle by half a lap.
the next days i will learn what went wrong in our guzzi.
