1979 DS125 2-stroke need help
« on: December 31, 2008, 10:36:20 PM »
I got a $20 bike that I cannot get firing it is a 79 ds125 which was the trail version of the TS125's which were streetable. I looked everywhere for a manual, but to no avail. Why is that everyone keeps telling me that 2-strokes are easy. I've been tearing down 4-strokes since the late 80's and have always gotten them going every one I touched. I can't seem yo wrap my brain around the concept I guess. Had spark, but no gas, now no spark and gas running all over the ground. I will be pulling the carb to clean/refurbish. I mostly need help diagnosing the electrical side of it. This is a no battery bike and I don't know where to start.

New plug new oil seal behind points plate, so I know it is not set correctly. Just need to find a link to a repair manual or go buy one to use for 30 min. I refused to learn how to set points on my CB550 and installed Dyna Ign. Now I have to learn.

Can't stress enough.... GET NEW POINTS!
The points ground out the coil to produce spark(duh). But what most people don't think of is that just 1 Ohm resistance to ground can kill a good spark. so if the points don't connect well, or if they do it once in a while, it's a major headache.

I've made a bad habit of salvaging old points cause I'm cheap. And I like to cuss! ;D
