Paintballing
« on: January 02, 2009, 06:11:02 AM »
my buddy invited me to go paintballing the other day so i had some spare cash and bought an average gun from wal mart and 1000 rounds. i shot a gun a few times before but never got involved in a game. needless to say the others i played with had souped up guns and carried 3000 rounds on them . managed to get hit quite a few times and with a handfull of point blank shots. actually turned out to be pretty fun. got a few momentos after the game (paintball welts/bruises) but the funny thing was they didn't hurt when i recieved them. guess the andrenaline numbed the pain. were planning to go again soon, yay.

anyone here into this stuff? i was surfing around the internet and saw that some guy hosts the largest national paintball match in oklahoma. it's called D-Day and i guess it supposidly re-enacts the invasion. just also manages to be 2 hours away from me, lol. anyone here ever attended? figure if i get into this a little more it would be cool to meet up and blast each other.

Colleague of mine and his brother used to do it regularly until they fell out.
Reason?
My colleague found out his brother was freezing his paintballs overnight before a "game"!! Needless to say they f*@*@en hurt!

I went to Okla. D-Day once 3 years ago. Very big event, with thousands of players and I think very unorganized. Just to many people. I would never go there again. Tippmann versus the world in Hell Michigan was much better. I've been to Bear Claw paintball in Fayetteville,TN. 6 times. Great paintball games and very organized.

I'm just getting to old to run around the woods now but it is a blast!!

I've played a handful of times but never seriously. Just with buddies out to inflict some pain on eachother.

Any good paintball place will check out your gun BEFORE they let you on their field. I always rent but have been with guys that bring their own. Some guys are just knobs and crank the gun up to insane speeds...the good fields run them through Chronographs to check speed or are familiar enough with them they know how they should be adjusted. Oh and be careful of Walmart or any other dept store rounds. They tend to have inconsistent coatings on them making them either killer hard or so soft they break up in the gun WAY too easy.

I bought my own chronograph and we check everybody at least twice during a day of paintballing, even at my house just goofing around in my small woods. 285 fps max. for day time and 250 fps for night play. Always be safe!!

went out again yesterday. a group of us went up the road to a speedball course and went at it. again, some had souped up guns and other, like me, with stockers. the group purchased 10,000 rounds for an afternoon. i would have never imagined using that much paint. i quickly found out you cannot be conservative since paintballs are not accurate. the first couple matches i'm trying to focus my shots to only notice they're slicing and hooking like my tee off at golf. i also noticed that if you don't try and sprint your way out at the beginning, you're not going anywhere once everyone is into the game. i managed to get ahold of the game when we played a capture the flag round. i managed to sprint 2/3 of the way to the flag after the horn. then a minute later i managed to catch a few opponents in a crossfire and eliminate half their team. that allowed me to get the flag but being the new guy, i didn't have any extra pods of paint so i was dry. i'm trying to scavenge the groud for dropped paintballs, lol. the rules were i had to take the flag back to the opponents base to win but their base was still occupied by 3 guys, lol. had to end that one by forfeit. needless to say it was a blast. the last game i got pelted point blank in the back 4 times by a kid. broke the skin, lol. looking forward to some more. i think i'm hooked.

The slicing and hooking is due to flat spots on the paintballs (likely from sitting around in one place too long).

I used to play, had a souped up Spyder Classic with the bells and whistles.

After investing so much on the equipment, it just got too expensive to actually play!  A whole hell of a lot of fun though  ;D

I'll never forget...  A CTF game was down to me one guy on the other team, he had me pinned down behind a bunker in the middle of a field.  I knew where he was but I couldn't get up to really sight my shots.  I could tell he was maneuvering in closer, so I took a few pot shots where I thought he was running and, "POOM!" out of paint.  He must have heard it, and I could hear him sprinting across the field towards me.  I knew I didn't have time to reload the hopper before he got to me, so I pulled out my cheap-ass Wal-mart pump from when I first started.  I ran it off a little disposable CO2 cartridge with a home-made 20 shot magazine, and always kept it clipped to my belt.  The guys constantly made fun of me because it was big and bulky and they said I would never use it since I carried A LOT of paint on me at all times.  And they were right, I never did use it....  Until today!  HAH!  I unclipped it, pumped the action, brought it up  and BLAM!  The dude was charging me about 15 feet out in the open, and I popped him right in the face.  Game over man, game over!  Ahhh, memories.  ;D  :D  ;D

hahahaha  he musta been pissed!

I've been meaning to try paintball.  I actually watched a bunch of guys playing r/c tank combat, where their tanks used paintball guns for cannons.  Check out rctankcombat.com way cool but a lot of work goes into the tanks.

I went once, but after getting nailed point blank a few times, I reconsidered the depth of my interest in the concept.

Some friends and I used to play on a semi-regular basis, a very informal group of about 8 or 12 guys that would get together and run around in the woods all day like kids.
It was a bunch of fun, but life eventually intervened and it all kind of fell apart.
I still have all of my gear and have been meaning to get something going again.

There is a group here that does an awesome Survivors VS Zombies game on Halloween night. Just like in the movies, if you are a zombie, you can only be "killed" by getting shot in the head! I'm gonna go this year.

Like Dawn of the Dead zombies, or 28 Days Later zombies?

Cause Dawn of the Dead zombies just sounds like it would hurt!   ;D

A headshot is a headshot, no matter how fast you are moving. Still hurts like a mofo!

But to make things interesting the game starts out with the zombies already hiding in the woods. The survivors all start out UNARMED at the edge of the woods and have to find a crate with the guns then have to find the crate w/ the balls.

All the while the zombies are roaming through the woods screaming and moaning looking for you.

Sounds great, eh?
