Cam Chain Noise

If your cam chain is making noise that does not get better with adjustment here is something to check. I was just pulling my starter to change the brushes and since I have a cast finned starter cover I have to remove the cam chain tensioner (1972 CB750) as it came off I loosened the adjuster nut and bolt expecting to have the adjuster come off in my hand as it is spring loaded. As I loosened the bolt nothing happened. I grabbed the adjuster and twisted it a few times and it came right out. A small amount of rust had developed on the shaft that kept it from moving. I cleaned and polished it up and realized that the last few years or so when I adjusted the cam chain I was really doing nothing. The other thing I did was flatten out the area that the bolt tightens to as there was a small dent where it was pushing and I figured that if it wanted to move in a small amount that when I tightened the bolt it could be pushed back to where it was before as the bolt goes back in it's small dent.
