78 750K - Brake caliper mounting bolt specs
« on: January 02, 2009, 10:22:56 AM »
So driving to work today I was like, "My front brake sounds worse than ever?!" Then I noticed that my brake caliper is only being held on by 1 bolt...awesome!

Are the mount bolts the same length? I seem to remember that one was longer? If anybody knows what bolt goes in there I'd be very greatful and I could just swing by the hardware store on my why home instead taking off the entire deal and walking to the hardware store...thanks for you help guys

Sorry I couldn't help with the pitch of the thread. That part isn't listed and I sold my K8 a year ago so I can't even quickly yank out one of the bolts and measure them....

here's a quickie thread pitch chart. The answer is yes there are different metric thread pitches, but only one applies to 6mm bolts. So you won't have a choice at the hardware store.

So according to the chart, sizes 4-12 have a standard thread pitch and 8-12 have the possibility of fine and extra fine.

My Honda Parts catalogue for my CB650's never list a thread pitch.  For example: the Caliper Mounting bolts are listed as 10X40.  Did Honda generally stick with the "standard" thread pitch for the individual sizes or was it different depending on the specific part?

Thanks...Joe

I cant answer that with any confidence. I know the bigger bolts that come to mind were fine thread, like motor mts, 2nd column in the chart, but how consistent that is I don't know.

The problem I have is that the bikes in my garage were disassembled post haste (ie. with anarchy ::)) years ago and now i'm going to attempt to rebuild the rubble.

I guess that I'll just have to go one bolt at a time.  This is the price I pay for the disorganization of my younger years ;D.

A wire brush (on a drill motor or such) to clean the threads and a thread gauge to measure them (cheap at sears or hardware) and you''re in business.
