Tracy body pictures....
« on: December 29, 2008, 09:38:38 AM »
I know, I know.... do a search :-\. I did..didn't see much ;D. Anyway.. I just won this Tracy body on eBay and wanted to see some pics of some installed on bikes. Bikes you have or had, bikes someone else has or had, anything just to get some ideas. I've allways liked the old Triumph X75 Hurricanes, thought I might build a SOHC version on one. Please post or send me any picts. Thanks.

One of the more popular project threads has been Seawebs Chrome Frame Tracy Body bike. http://forums.sohc4.net/index.php?topic=17831.15

There were evidently some design variations over the years, sidecover size, scallops in the tank etc. But there are several pics in SeaWeb's thread.

In my Avatar is the Tracy 2 piece setup installed in 1972. At the time I wanted the body, but it was unavailable and I had to settle on the 2 piece. Now it seems the bodies are everywhere and the 2 piece set up is rare.

Carpy has/had one; if you check out his site you'll likely find decent pix.

I was looking at Carpy's bike nad was wondering if they were Yammie rims.  He said they were early lester rims.  I started looking closer and nope, not Yammie rims but quite close.

Sorry for the short hijack; I've seen that some have adapted Yammi (or was it Kawasaki?) wheels to Hondas. If anyone knows what's involved please PM me.

I tried
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Triumph_X-75_Hurricane
The X75 was laid out by Craig Vetter certainly talented enough. But so was Tracy, who was making these bodies at the same time. Might be hard to pin point who was cloning who.

PS: After reading this, I'll have to give the nod to the Vetter/ X75  http://www.motohistory.net/featuredstory/vetter-story4.html

No, I mean I'm going to build a X-75 clone out of a '74 CB750K with the Tracy body I just got. You are right Craig Vetter did the X-75 design. I know it won't really look like the real thing but I think I can get close enough to make me happy and make some folks wonder what the hell it is.

NOT TO HIJACK SORRY>>>>>>

Well Bill since you so politely asked....

It would be a question of axle size and wheel width. Nothing more.

If I had your front forks and wheel I could do it for you.... or if you decided to fly or drive here I could show you.

Most of the time I just re-cut a whole axle to suit the job along with spacers.

Disc brakes are slightly harder to line up as disc diameter might not be the same as well as spacing from the hub. So then comes in the spacer factor on the discs. I usually make those as well. Providing they are the same diameter of course.

If not, then I'll find some that are and either fill in the existing mount holes and re-drill or figure something else out.

Note: Yamaha disc bolt patterns are almost exactly dead on for Ducati. Just need spacers to fit the calipers.
