74 750k Cafe Build--- AKA project Cheap Thrills
« on: January 04, 2009, 10:25:36 AM »
I bought the 74' in the begining of  the summer.
It was in pretty rough shape but only 22k miles. It had sat for over a decade. A lot of rust. The mufflers were completely rotted. and some of the header pipes.

I broke one of the posts that hold the slide in the carbs and put the project on hold for a while. I searched ebay for months for a cheap set of carbs. ( dam they're going up in value) and finally found a set that was just missing a few little things that I already had, for a good price.

After putting the carbs back in, the old rusty dinosaur fired up. and ran pretty friggen good. It spit probably 5 pounds of rust from the exhaust. I rode it and it felt like a brute compared to my 550. I wish I video taped the revival. Its a real good feelin to have a nasty neglected bike that's sat for decades run again.

The bike is now completely stripped and all parts are labeled and in bags. After a lot of contimplation I've decided to paint the frame red using Rustoleom gloss regal red. I'll be using the the aerosol sprayers with the jar attached. If any one has insight on them I'd like to hear about it.

Hears the bike when I first brought it home

I painted the frame with Rustoleum regal gloss red. I used the the can stuff and used the aerosol sprayers with the jar from home depot and mixed with a lil more mineral spirits then recommended and the stuff lays on real good. The aerosol sprayers are a good product for 5 bux a piece.

THE FRAME IS F@#$ING SEXY NOW

When I started the thread It had nothing to with the Frank Zappa album. I never heard of it. But when you guys show that art It looks like it would be kewl to put some of it on my tank and panels. Hmmm we'll see.

It's a cool album, it's called cheap thrills because he made it really inexpensive to buy, I think most places sell it for like 6 or 7 bucks. The art is cool though, kind of like a ratfink thing going on.

With A lil imagination. You can see how the motor's gonna look in there.  I don't know what i should do with the rims now. They are too pitted to save the chrome. I think they maybe be getting sprayed black.
