Crap! Project 2 has started!!!
« on: January 04, 2009, 06:29:45 PM »
Well, thanks to DPender and his generous trade of three swingarms for a batch of parts, I am now able to start my second project.  So this is what is sitting in my basement right now...

And this is what I would like it to turn into...

DPenders' trade gives me the chance to try a swingarm bracing idea I've had.  I'm going to have to do a bit of research in terms of the proper shock size/location/angle to achieve the best performance, and bracing will be key as well.

Things this bike will have (hopefully):

-160 profile in a 17" rim (going to look for wide harley rims, but I may have one custom widened
-front end swap with a sportier/newer set of shocks, but keeping the spoke wheels and dropping to a 18" rim and slightly wider tire
-custom frame slider mounts (to be located on the frame, midway between the front and rear of the tank
-engine stuff...to much to list (and buy)
-other things I don't want to think about
I need help moving my project bike from Wisconsin to Seattle, WA.  Willing to pay well.  Contact if interested.

Not to be critical, (critical replies usually start like this ;D)
Do something different with the exhaust. You have already done that style of exhaust with the other bike. Maybe a 4-1  with the collector widened and flattened to fit up through the swing arm instead or ?
Maybe put the swingarm brace on the bottom instead of the top. Mono-Shock?
And most important of all, build it the way you want it (reguardless of what I and others say)
Looking foward to progress on this.

I wish I had a better photoediting/vector program.  It's not going to be an undertail this time.  4-2 with high-swept short/fat megaphone with turn-down tips...ish.  I should've clarified.

Project just got an an adrenaline boost.  Just won this on feeBay...

Yay!  Working out the angles and bracing for this one will be fun.  Looking at my swingarm, and thinking about the space available in the swingarm with a 17" tire (and with some cutting and ultrabracing to the swingarm, I should be able to mimic the rocker linkage exactly as a 929.  I'm gonna talk to a sportbike tuner/mechanic friend to recruit his help for some of that...

Current update is...I really hope that monoshock hurries up and falls onto my doorstep.  I can't begin the swingarm bracing without it, nor can I start the upper shock mount and where it will attach the frame.  Messed around with the rear wheel a bit yesterday.  Since I'm probably not going to be able to afford a new rear rim (17" and 4.5" wide) right now, I think I'll stick with the 130 that seems to be very doable on the current rim.  Having some pieces machined to aid in the subframe mounting, and working with my dad (the machinist) to take proper measurement and whatnot for those.  When I get my camera back I'll have a few more pics to put up...

Come on rear shock!!!!

Augh!!!  crap!  My old land-lady (landlord) who agreed that I could keep a few things at my old residence (think "storage") apparently decided to go back on that agreement and threw a bunch of my stuff away, including the 4-2 exhaust from my 750 when I first got it, which was destined to because the starting point for the 4-2 for this project!  SH*T!  I'm gonna have to part with some of my remaining cb750 bits to try to recover some money to get a new setup.  I can't trash my remaining header as it is needed for my undertail 750.  Keep your eyes peeled in the "For Sale" section to see what I'm getting rid of.

Big ol' sad face :(
