Brake hose length for clip ons?
« on: September 11, 2014, 04:55:47 AM »
I'm building a 550 and using 750 forks and clip ons. Because the 750 forks are longer, I can raise them in the triple tree and still have stock length 550 frond end. By doing that, I can mount the clip ons on top of the triple.

Anyone have any idea how long the front brake hose(s) need to be for Clubmans or Clip Ons?

I have a modern master cylinder with a switch, but I could also use the stock splitter/switch, so give me an overall length and maybe lengths for upper/lower hoses using the splitter. Well....upper anyway, lower would remain stock.

Thanks goldarrow, that's good to hear. I actually have a one piece braided hose in my parts pile. I'll measure it and see how it compares.

I'll second on checking with Slingshot.  I'd also suggest putting all the pieces in place and use a piece of flexible wire to mock up whatever line or cable you need.  Turn the wheel and bottom down on the shock to make sure you allow for enough line.  Custom cut cables and stainless wrap brake lines are not that expensive and make a huge difference in the build quality.

My 750 is currently setup with Clip-ons mounted above the top triple tree, using stock brake lines.
Bike is lowered down the tree's about 1 inch, and I find the position much more comfortable with the clip-ons top mounted.

The top brake line is "just" long enough to work still.
