Should take 2.5 hrs or less for a welder to do the stretch with the method I have figured out, if you use 2 swingarms.

keeping the alignment will be easier than you could imagine or do on any other type of stretch, but hey. go for it.. Once you cut the front off or the legs you are going to be doing extra work to get it straight..

like i said before if the tires touches the arm gring out some claerance and weld in a plate.

The word was it was going to be done cheap, so quick-n-dirty makes sense to me.. try it out in basic form, if it works take it further.

quick and dirty huh...  Since you put it that way, I'll do it.

OK I will explain my Swingarm stretch trick..

(havent tried it, but know it will speed things up!)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

First determine amount of stretch.

Gather material, either tubing or another arm to cut front off of.

say you are going 4 " stretch

Get 2 pcs of flat bar at least 1 inch wide by 6 inch long or so, at least 1/4 thick or +. Mark these pieces in a corner with punch or file, then clamp or tack together making sure sides are flush.

You need a drill the size of the swingarm bolt and a second swingarm bolt (engine bolt may work)

Now driil the 2 plates togeter, with 2 holes(swing bolt dia), 4 inches apart(or whatever stretch is), try to get them near the middle. Then brake apart but make sure they are marked .

Now slip these plates and a bolt thru the arm. Next you will use the second hole to hold the new front piece of 2nd arm or your machined parts.. after you get them to fit.

Go to 1/2 hr or more of cutting, grinding swearing, and drinking beer. (usually beer wont help accuracy , but this is almost idiot proof) :o

Now your swingarm xtension is fitting in the 2nd hole..
MAKE SURE THE 2 PLATES ARE ORIENTED THE SAME WAY AS DRILLED (this is the crucial part)

Now bolt everything together loosely. Your alignment now will be done on a flat surface by using shims under the  drilled sideplates and clamping. If plates are wide enough it can be clamped direct to table.

Now tighten up the sideplates with the 2 long bolts and spacers , whatever it takes. When all is clamped, WELD..

BEER..Then paint ..BEER.. then install on frame..easy eh :o

I drew it out as I read it and its looks simple enough. but in my minds eye, there is 2 front mounts, 4 inches apart on the finished product...

I know you said you haven't tried this method, but, you got any pics of a swingarm with a similar end result?

alright! I've sourced some 40 hole chrome hoops.

21x2.15 and 21x3.25 for 35 and 40 dollars respectively.
and I might be picking up a dohc cb750 for 200 bucks.
it has the swingarm and the dual disc front end I want.
does anyone know off hand if the fork tubes will fit in my triple trees?

I have the fork tubes from a 1981 CB750 in the triple trees of my '78 F3 750 Frankenbike right now. I'm using the dual piston dual caliper brakes from the '81 along with my '78 front wheel and disks.

Of course, it isn't actually running yet, so I can't describe the ride, but the fork tubes fit easily, if a couple inches longer.

well, every thing's good except for the longer part, I'm lowering the bike considerably.
I'll just rebuild the forks with my tubes if it's an issue.
I think I'll try to cut down my forks 2 inches on the lathe and rethread the tops. and maybe make some cool top nuts while i'm there.

probably not... I just came across a new lathe, and I'm eager to use it.

You thought about tires yet?

I'm a Michelin / IRC / Shinko dealer and want to throw some ideas at you.

You still thinking about 3" wide rims?

poop.

hmm... I'm kinda bent on the 120/70 for the back...
but i cant seem to find anything in a 110 except for the 325/21 which is usually a dirt or dual purpose tire. is there a tire between 90/90 and 120/70?

if you put a 90 series tire on the back the bike is going to push  and walk in corners. Not a good idea. Is that 90 series tire even weight rated for a cb's carrying capacity.

While actual weight of the bike isn't anywhere close to the weight rating, carrying capacity would be irrelevant on a cafe styled bike. No passengers and what luggage you could fit would be minimal.

Maybe but I haven't found it. You could always try to find a black wall one.

$250+ is what that tire costs.... If I had it I'd buy em.

That looks like it may be just a tad tight to the front of the swingarm.  :o
