Cool helmet Bill! And three sweet bikes.

What's the story here... and what's up with your gas tank?

Sorry, but it is me! :) That was my 66' CB72 Honda Hawk that would take on a Super Hawk but not the Black Bomber! ;D

Thanks for the compliment on my ride. Those megaphones sounded good too! 8)

For some reason... take that helmet and overall look of the day and I picture slingshot dragsters going down the strip with you.

The location was in Japan at Misawa AFB (1968) at their dirt dragstrip. I was on my 66' CB72 Honda Hawk (stripped down for racing and sporting a Sears Moped gas tank! They were a commonly sought item for racing because they were small and easy to mount with one bolt up through the middle of the tank. That tank disappeared but I came across another one a few years ago.  I was racing against a CL77 (305) Scrambler that was slightly "Warmed up" and almost beat him (almost). That Yamaha in the background was a NEW 68' 350 Scrambler and was just looking.

Here's the only other photo that I have of my old Honda in action.

Then here is one of me and my Cb72 before I started messing with it.  ;D  I mean, Pure Stock!

BTW, in the top photo, I was racing a Suzuki 250 dirt bike and actually BEAT that one! 8) :D   Needless to say he was NOT happy and caught a lot of flack from his 2-stroke buddies. ;)

Hey, back then I was "Styling" Sam. :D  You know, the white socks, the black loafers, the wheat colored jeans. The shirt was the only thing that changed colors from day to day. Of course, during "Work Time" I was wearing green pants & shirt with green socks and black boots with a red ballcap with 67th TFS (Tac Fighter Squadron) on it and working on F4C Phantoms. ;)

Bill, I've got an old CB77 Super Hawk but can't afford a Restore to replicate the original CB72, so I'm gonna try to build it close to what I'd like to have built a 2nd one that I acquired while over in Japan and ended up selling it to a buddy. Maybe my Super Hawk can take the place of the Hawk and the one I didn't get to build back then. ;)

Promise me when you finish your CB77 you'll have a picture with it wearing a similar get up! ;D

Were the F4 Phantoms the ones without the benefit of machine guns because dog fighting was determined to be "obsolete"?

Ha, I don't know if they even make "wheat colored" jeans  anymore, but I'll see what I can do. Now, it still won't look exactly like that because I am a bit heavier now AND i have a beard, which is white. ;D

The F4Cs had provisions for a "Gattlin" gun to be mounted on, what's called "The Centerline" and the F4D had one built in the nose of the plane, just under the radar system.
