What a time for this sort of topic to come up...here i have been debating building a cross between chopper and drag bike for the street for awhile now.

Let me add to the voices already in your head...

...dooo iiiit, doooo iiiit. The bike thing not the crazy rampage thing.

Lol...Chances are if i do go about it it will be a rigid tail using a sport bike front end and wheels..still working on the design though...

if you are going to do it, use a 76+ kz900/1000. The interweb is choked with zx9R front end conversions for it and they have excellent parts support. Mine still has lights because the fast streetbike class I am planning on running requires it but you can bet the bike will see sunday street exercise as well.

Hmmmmm i may have to look into that. But what i ment was taking a prebuilt Honda chopper chassis and adding a front end from something like the ZX9 or a Gixxer 1K along with the rear wheel from the same bike. The frame im looking at using is set up for a 200mm rear wheel so it may be something like squirleys bike and use the Gixxer front end with a Harley hub to get the spoked look up front and possably a later Honda rear hub to have a spoked rim in the rear..That or settle for a 180 sport bike rear tire.

I recently read that Russ was asked about getting the scorcerer running again for a cacklefest, it apparently has a broken (!) goldenrod in the rear motor. A well-known volunteer offered to do the work, but the answer was NO... Bummer.  :-[

My ex-father-in-law used to work for Russ in the 70's.

No one was allowed to touch the bikes after they were finished. Guess Russ did ALL the work on his own stuff.

Seems he still does lol..

Just got back from a trip through the NHRA Museum in Pomona.
Saw the RC Eng / Vance & Hines double engine Top Gas bike on display, the one that won 21 of 22 races (lost once when it broke the chain).  1100cc x 2, Webbers, ARDs, run through a Crowerglide clutch & 2 speed (B&J) tranny.
What a piece of engineering!

Crazy #$%* aint it?

My father told me stories of watching that go down the track. Said you could feel the ground rumble underneath you when standing next to it.

That bike would often have the field covered by 2 tenths and 15 MPH - Yipes!
It was one bad hombre, the sign said it would have qualified in the top half of most Fuel bike shows of the day...

Too high rpms maybe? Or is that turboed?

Either way that's a serious launch.

That bike is turboed to about 25-30 pounds boost.  It still ran a 7.40 second 199 mph pass.

The data logger on the bike tells us everything. We can read throttle position throughout the run.
Mike ( the brave rider) has been closing the throttle slightly to keep from looping. he is wide open 90+ % of the run.
We are working to control the boost so that he can stay wide open all the time.

Right but at some point sitting there in a constant 5200rpm or whatever you stage at, the boost will fall off. Right?

Or are you doing something I never did?

We are using a Magnetti Marelli engine management system. That plus some tuning secrets allows controllable high boost when launching.

The electronics on these bikes will do everything except brush your teeth. There is a big debate about using "rate of acceleration" software. It is basically a way to use traction control while staying with in the rules. It is similar to what Kawasaki uses on the 2009 ZX10. This link is to a street/race 425HP Hayabusa we built for a customer in Tahiti
