Hello from Pittsburgh
« on: January 08, 2009, 10:03:16 PM »
Just found this forum today, I've already come across some good finds on here.

I bought a severely neglected 74' CB550 a few months ago, I had seen it sitting under a tarp outside a guys house for a few years. I finally stopped by out of curiosity on a nice day and talked to the owner.  he let me take a look at it, he said it had ran when he parked it 12 years ago in his son's garage, his son moved and he took the bike back and then parked it under the tarp in his back yard. I gave it a kick and it had good compression so i offered him $100 on the spot.  I've been wrenching on it just about every weekend since and finally got it running over Christmas, a nice present to myself  ;D . But theres still ALOT of work to go.

I'm a fairly competent mechanic but the motorcycle world is new to me, this being my first bike.  I look forward to many discussions on here and hopefully I can get some good advice after I screw things up  :P  Thanks for listening guys.

Thanks for the welcome keith, I'm in McKeesport, right up against white oak. I'm probably about 25 to 30 minutes away from you.

We are very close. Just let me know if you need a hand. Maybe we can ride together this spring.

I'd definitely be down for a ride, hopefully I'll still be here, lol, the rumor mill is starting up and it sounds like my reserve unit may be going to Afghanistan, that would be a total bummer to spend my whole winter working on this bike only to get back in time for it to be snowing again...
