Impending swingarm doom?
« on: January 09, 2009, 03:07:22 PM »
On my 75 550k I replaced the bushings with stock honda ones this afternoon. I noticed these ridges inside the swingarm and figured the slop in the bushings had cut these. After pushing the bushings back in I noticed the grooves are 1-2 cm past the bushing? What could of caused this ?The bushings tha came out werent that far in either. My side to side play is now gone but for how long?  I was probably the first too ever grease it last year. Should i be looking for a swingarm?

So, the strategy is to lie to people you are asking for help?

I think I'll be busy going for a ride.

Good luck!

Those ridges are intentional.  The bushings seat against them to keep you from pushing them in too far.  Some swingarms use a bushing with a lip (looks like a top hat from the side) that makes the ridges redundant.

How badly worn was the "sleeve" as that usually wears more thanm the bushes

The sleeve didnt look worn at all or the bushings but the inside bolt had some pitting. Hopefully its all fine now. The sleeve sits in the bushings so I cant think that its not supposed to be there. Thanks

When they build a swingarm, they chose material close to finished size. Then they took a cut out of the ends the length of the bushings, making the round and precise hole they needed.

Hope that explains it, although it may look it tubing is usually not perfectly round, in or outside, and can vary a few thou from nominal size.. not precise enough for a bushing or bearing.
