...I'm still having a clear out of my motorcycle stuff; moving will do that to you. Anyhoo, here is some material from a 1965 copy of Floyd Clymers Motor CYCLE Monthly (As Cycle used to be called). Name those manufacturers/motorcycles. The biggest bikes mentioned are 650s (Triumph and BSA) and the headliner is the launch of the Honda CB450 'Black Bomber'.

The models all looked so wholesome.

Didn't know what that 2nd one was, only "Shooting Star" I ever heard of was a BSA 500cc Twin and I knew that bike wasn't a BSA.

Actually, I have no idea, Bill. It is a Yamaha ad though, from the back page of the mag. Got to love the footwear!

I thought it was and then I went online and found that brochure that seemed to cinch it. Yeah, I guess nearly all of the Japanese bikes did the speedo that way AND some British bikes AND a number of them actually did it that way, didn't they?

Germans did too. BMW had speedo's in the head light- and with the /5 line, they even put a small tach included with the speedo. That head light bucket is worth a mint because people doing conversions want them.

That bike with the "W" tank badge is driving me nuts.

6. Yes, a Harley davidson. I'm assuming a re-badge out of Aermacchi...??

I'm guesing that White Internation Motors is a re-badge. I didn't find it in my (out of print but still available) "The Complete Illustrated Encyclopedia of the Worlds Motorcycles". That, it it's a VERY rare bike.

Yes the M50 is an Aermach

1080 has most of a motor, maybe he can post it..? I warned him, that is one fugly bike..

#3 on first page is probably a rebadge. looks a lot like a Ducati DFalcon or Mountaineer, pretty sure its is I talian.

It looks like an 08 because of the handlebars and oiltank, but it has an 07 primary drive on it!.
going to hit the books cuz I am not sure 07 had bars that long, and oiltank that size..

am I close..

it is MISSING the Battery tube ....

It is the 2nd or 3rd year of making their own engine, but the name on it is not the same as on the tank, nor is it the big name on the headbadge.

They came in dark blue and maybe green

Actually, it is a 1901 Hendee. Hendee was one of the co-founders of Indian Moto.

Nor is it called a Hendee, it had to have had Indian painted on the tank

the headbadge reads diagonally across INDIAN in script, on the outer edges it will say THE HENDEE MFG CO across the top,in block letters. SPRINGFIELD MASS on the bottom.
(I am looking at a pic of the headbadge on the 06 I had)

The engine will have no Indian markings, rather hendee Mfg, and will be the 1st -3rd year Indian actually made their own, rather than Thor..

Spring-fork was first used in 05, the bike shown has long frame with round oiltank used in 07/08, and it has pin drive chaincase that was used in 07.There is nothing on this bike built before 06

An 01 had bicycle fork, bicycle sprocket, bicycle bars (without dual controls) smaller rear tank, different muffler location. and more.

I have seen 5 or more camelbacks . A buddy of mine probably has more of them than anyone else, and has a huge amount of info on them.

I will say this , of all the bikes I am familiar with this is one of the worst for being found with wrong year parts, or called the wrong year of manufacturer. there is really so few people that know these bikes really well. it is very common to see these in Books described as a csertain year with 4 or more wrong bits on them..

You know Bob (and not because you said this), in the back of my mind, I kinda wondered, but I'm not that knowledged on the older ones like that, in fact there are probably folks here who could know lots more than me about the details of the old Indians. Only ones that I remember seeing (back in the days of my Granddad's shop) were the Chiefs (about 46'-53') the Warriors/Scouts,Arrows & Braves and then the rebadged Royal Enfields and such. I've only started picking up some details in the last year or two.

Bob, I think I found the same bike only it's in a different position. And I found it here, under Hendee/Teens Singles :

And, here is another angle that shows that it IS the same bike at the same location and is listed here as a Hendee Single, in the 01 - 16 category. I mean, in 2 different sites, it is called a Hendee, so I don't know what to tell you. Not trying to start anything, mind you, just showing what I found on the subject.

The Hendee motors were built by Automatic Machinery Co in Aurora IL, and used till around 1906. Then Indian began making their ownHendee motors till into the teens.

The headbadge and tank said Indian when it left the factory.
