I've been spoiled by this forum
« on: January 16, 2009, 07:06:04 AM »
I just wanted to say thanks to any and all that has contributed to this forum. I have been very spoiled. I'm trying my hand at some other forum's specified for the Yamaha XS650's. Not only do they not have very many members, it like pulling teeth to try and get any answers to any questions.

Thank you thank you thank you. Atleast I know, when it comes to my Honda, I'll always be taken care of!  ;D

Cafe Racing is mainly a matter of taste. It is an atavistic mentality, a peculiar mix of low style, high speed, pure dumbness, and overweening commitment to the Cafe Life and all its dangerous pleasures. I just kind of found out about it myself, but in a short time this place has been a great source of info & inspiration.

Well I started a thread here:

http://forums.sohc4.net/index.php?topic=44976.0

Discussing thinking about bobbing a triumph, but was quickly talked out of doing that, and steering more towards the 78-84 model XS650.

I'm strongly against raping such a beautiful bike of any kind to create something like a bobber, but if I can find one in poor condition, then I wouldn't feel as bad.. ;)

I'm just trying to get some good info, discussing bobber builds in good detail with pics, but haven't quite found what I'm looking for. The best place I've found thus far is a place called www.650rider.com, although quite a few decent builds nothing in great detail, so I have been asking away, trying to figure out the best way to go.

I've never been a big fan of stretched hardtails, or long forks, with ape handle bars, and forward controls. Especially when the gas tank is placed inches away from the triple tree. Just seems like it's floating there. Just seems tacky to my taste. I just want something simple and effective.

My cafe build was an enduring one when it came to rebuilding the engine, but all of the cosmetics were more or less a "bolt-on" part. I wanted something a little more challenging, such that of a bobber containing; welding, re wiring, oil tank placement. Something making it unique and my own style.

The search continues.

but yes I totally agree

Hey JAG,

I was actually on a Yamaha forum and they banned me because my username (bunghole) was too "offensive"!

Hah!!!

So I went and bought a CB750 and came here.

Anyone offended???  :)

As long as you don't go in to detail on how you decided to tag yourself with that name, lol.
I don't have a motorcycle, sold it ('85 Yamaha Venture Royale).  Haven't had a CB750 for over 40 years.

Yeah, there might be some pretty decent forums out there but, it's mighty hard to beat the good ol' SOHC4. I've been here for 3yrs and counting! ;) Been to a bunch, found some that seemed to be dead, some with SOME life in them, Some that weren't bad, but This is my Main Stay, with the Honda Twins as my secondary. ;)

BTW, I figured that you'd already been to 650motorcycles.com.  It's a bit different from here, but there sure are loads of "All Kinds Of Styles" there to look over AND what ever a person sees, that he likes, he can use on whatever brand and model of bike that he chooses. :)

Agreed...this place is the best.  I actually first came here in 1998 when I got back my 1977 CB750K.  I rebuilt the carbs which was a first for me and this board helped me through it.  Then sold the 77 and got a Wing.  But that 750 just kept me wanting another.  Picked up that KO in 2007 and now I am looking for another to do.  This place is addicting for sure....

Did you try to explain to them what a bunghole IS on a motorcycle?  They sound much too prudish for common sense, anyway.

Here's some links to get you started on your xs650 adventure:

I have been to That website, but the layout is so piss poor. I wish they Atleast had thumbnails of each bike, because there are literally thousands of builds on there, but you really don't know what's what's until you click the link. However, there are some good tech articles..

Thanks guys, no matter where I venture, this place is still the "bee's knees"  8)
