Festival of 1000 Bikes
« on: July 12, 2009, 02:06:09 PM »
Went to Mallory Park today, Vintage Motor Cycle Club Festival of 1000 Bikes, the event allows people to ride their bikes on the race circuit in 15min sessions for £30, it is all sorted into road & race bikes from early 1900's to late 1990's, the sessions are sorted to allow similar speed machines all policed by travelling marshalls, a great day out sorry I didn't take many pictures.

It's a good weekend, just road bikes on Saturday plus a classic bike trial area, then Sunday had road bikes for first hour and half the rest of day was race bikes and past masters. Will probably go on Saturday next time.

Thanks Andy just wish I had taken more photos though, the one I should have got was a CBR250 4 cyl engine in a CB72/77 frame.

Malc, that 250 four was probably my mate Tony Hudson.
When I stopped racing in the Thundersprint, I recomended that they took Tony as my replacment and he has pleased the spectators since 06 with the howling Honda four.
You can see and hear the bike at the start of this video.

Hi Sam there are a lot of replica fours these days, the person I spoke to about the CB72/77 framed one said he had only recently bought it, there are probably more of them, there is a replica copy frame built now so I suspect that is the route most take. Tommy Robb rode one of Phil Morris's replicas there. While on the subject Jim Redman was there riding what was said to be an ex-works CR750 do you know if it was genuine.

I can't remember where I saw it but I beleive he rode the Clive Brooker CR with chrome Megaphones, the only time that bike saw a works was when it was being made into a CB750 in the Honda factory. ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

+1 Sam, he always rides Clive Brooker's CR750 replica. I never understood why the bike gets so much attention, it only looks like a half decent CR750 at a distance and most of the visible bits are very standard. All Ok in itself but it's tatty looking as well - not cared for like a good SOHC should be ;-)

I suppose not many people would recognise real 'works' parts on these things nowadays anyway which is why the CB250RR engines don't get noticed in the 250 4 replicas....

Thanks for that Sam & Simon, I didn't think it was a works bike. Where have all those CR93's gone? you very rarely see one.

Yes looks great, it's really an Aermacchi though, pure Italian, just HD branding.
