Hey backwoodsman, that is a nice bike you have there.  Glad you got them posted.  I like that fairing too.  It takes the boring cheap (yes I have one) viper fairing look and gives it some style.

Not to battle you but the bike is not a drag bike. Retro's bike is a drag bike, to me anyway (extended rear, drag bars, slammed...).  Yours goes closer to a cafe style bike but not far into it.  Check out the BOTM threads to see more of what I mean.

So, there was a time that I could not come up with a style for momma's bike.  I asked and I got a lot of different responses with which I was happy with.  Did I come away with a style out of it?  Nope but the best response was one by Johnny5.   :P

Here is the thread where I asked what I had built.
http://forums.sohc4.net/index.php?topic=54735.0

I hope this helps ease any tension and maybe help clear some things up.  I have seen it posted amongst cafe style bikes even though I would not call it a cafee.
I don't have a motorcycle, sold it ('85 Yamaha Venture Royale).  Haven't had a CB750 for over 40 years.

Thanks for the fairing info Woodsman - much appreciated.

And you can call your bike whatever you like...it is after all your bike ;). Just because your bike dosent say "CAFE" on the tank dosent make it not a cafe bike  ::) (come on Mick is that the best you could come up with!). I remember the same argument about what makes a chopper  ::)...now that was funny. A cafe bike is whatever you want it to be...clubmans do not make a bike a cafe bike..... ;) 8). Now go ride that thing and take some pics against some interesting scenery...like a cafe or a diner for instance  ;D ;D

1973 Honda 750 Cafe drag bike.... 836 kit.
Sure looks like a '70s vintage cafe to me! ;) Are the rearsets Dunstall or Tickle? (they are identical except for the rubber; they look like they might be Dunstall)
Don't fix it if it ain't broke!

She stands damn near straight up on the sidestand.  The front end MUST be turned that way and I stretch the suspension up a bit so it does not fall over.  I need to have about an inch cut off the stand still.  Being about 3 inches down front and back has that effect on it, lol.

And thanks for the compliments!
i like it,whats it like on the centre stand?

It is rough getting it on the center stand.  The bike is heavy.  This is an old pic and the only one I have of it on the center stand.

i used to think it was tough to get it on the centerstand then i started pushing down while pulling up on the back and it became way less of a chore

Jeeze you lot are a touchy feely bunch..... :P

We all know what a cafe is and thats not one, a fairing does not a cafe make {this IS NOT CRITICISM} .....its almost identical to what i am building and mine is based on 70's superbikes, as cafe's are based on well British Cafe bikes, massive difference.....I SAID I LIKE IT........happy now...... ???
Why you lot want to turn everything i say into an argument is beyond me...I didn't knock what he wants to call it, actually i didn't knock a friggin thing, it just not what i or most here would call a cafe, take the fairing off and it just looks like every other stock honda on here except with lester wheels, superbike bars and nice paint. I can call my bike an elephant but that doesn't make it one. No offense intended but i really don't like cafe's.  Andy, you may like to try google, cafe is a British creation, but like the English language, it doesn't surprise me when you choose to change the interpretation of anything and claim it as American, then tell the rest of the world they are wrong....

Everyone has personality traits,  those who choose to ride powered bicycles have an additional dose of self confidence.  Those who are mechanics and ride have a double dose. Those who ride, wrench, and race get a triple dose. Fighter jocks who ride motorcycles are the only people I have met with more self confidence.

Beer or spirits can also simulate the above.

Some of us have additional problems which make us cranky.

Many Aussie's either refuse to remember, or forget that before we (Americians and Aussies) were sent, or went, south or west we came from the same people and place. similarities are often a source of tension.

Oh dear Mick...now what have I said that would make you think I  claim it as American? I am from Scotland  ::) ;) ;D 8). And what are you the cafe police?  Telling someone that a fairing does not make a cafe? or any other bits he wants to add on ;D :D. I call it as I see it as well Mick and you are spouting BS so lets stop here while this is going nowhere.......there is no checklist of what makes a cafe bike a cafe bike. Go back to the original concept - a bike that was made into a road racer to race around the countryside and local towns. That is a cafe bike.

And no hard feelings here Mick  its all for banter  ;) But this is NOT the thread to do it in...if you have a bike and have it out on the road then take a photo and post it here (I notice you have not posted a bike on the road pic Mick? Time to step away from the computer and get that 1000cc monster finished or get another bike and go take a ride).

cheers
Andy

Hey everyone SOHC
I have owned this bike since 1980 thanks for all the compliments and critisism. The rear sets are John Tickle with Norton Commando rubbers. The clutch in the bike is a Honda 350 with heavy 750 springs more clutch disks in the 350 and they fit 750. The motor is a 836 kit built by Amol motorcycles Dumont NJ. out of business now. This was the sixth motor I have put in the bike since I have owned it blew alot at the dragstrip and just plain high revving. I am like jeckle and hide when I get on this thing. The cam tower hold downs in the valve covers is the secret to a strong motor.I will post more pics soon with some nice senary soon. Backwoodsman
