At my age (57) I try to avoid trouble, turn the other cheek and try to be a nice guy. But if anything would make me want to kick someone's a$$ this would be it Chris. Absolutely no excuse for this and I would without question contact this jerks company and let them know what one of their employees did and that your expecting him to pay for the damage he did to your bike. Good luck with this.

I was following a car on my way back to the bike shop I worked at in Sydney, the car stopped between the 2 driveways we had and the driver proceeded to put the car in reverse and reverse straight into me, I had the horn blaring but his stereo was so loud he couldn't hear me so he just trashed my front guard and pushed me backwards about 10 feet before he realized, i was lucky to stay upright.... :o

This was today during the annual Hansen Dam ride organized by the SoCalNortonClub.  Can you see my bike in the group shot?   Hahahhah.  Me neither. There were prob 500 bikes there today.   The solo shot is later in the after noon on Sand Canyon Road north of LA.

What makes it bad is I saw it happen and I was a second too lat to get to the guy and stop him. He was in a company truck and it will hurt him a lot more than it will me.

Take that company for everything possible. The guy might get fired, too.

First off, how could the driver NOT have seen your bike if it was parked there when he/she pulled in???
Secondly, DO call the company and find out when they are going to pay for the repairs/rental vehicle.
Thirdly, always park in the middle of a parking space with the bike further out towards the traffic lane so that it is clearly visible before anyone does attempt to pull into your spot.

Was out at the local Starbucks relaxing/having a coffee. A truck wanted the same parking spot as my bike was in...

Just saw this, that is super depressing.  The only good thing about this is that the beatiful paint did not get damaged.

PM sent to help you find parts....

Good luck, hope it all works out.

+1 to that,a while ago I parked my bike at some local shops and I do leave it in such a way that's its to the front of the space somewhat and trying to be obvious,id gotten a sandwhich or something and was sitting across the way at a bench and the number of cars that came reeling in and headed straight for the "blank space"between the other cars each side then braking suddenly and being partly turned in had to reverse out was unreal!
hope your bike gets sorted out promptly and quickly with no hassles,id be #$%*ing furious!

Yep, I always park my bike front wheel out, and if anything poking ever so slightly "too far" out. It pays to be seen!

.Or just pack a 45acp anytime out in public. Decent stopping power with that side arm, and it's encouraged to carry at all times in Texas.
I carry in any state that'll let me, a truck cab is a big target.

I am definitely going to take the parking advice and put into full use!

The driver wanted to settle without getting his company insurance involved until I told him that he's looking at a minimum of a grand in parts and labor. So now I have to take a day off to haul my bike an hour away and let Reagan at Ace Motorworks, here in the Houston area, do an estimate on it and then have the guy's insurance estimator come out and look at it too.

Hey Chris...I've met Reagon, he's a good friend of the other Chris you met at Luchenbach.
[Chris rides the Ducati]. Tell Reagon to pad that estimate!

After speaking to Reagan he said that he would give his estimate and the insurance company's estimate will come on the low side and that the insurance company will end up paying the low side.

As long as his insurance co estimate's price of parts is realistic, you'll be fine.

Make sure that they pay SHOP LABOR rates for the repairs even if you do the work yourself.

I've been wondering what protocol for parking in car spaces is. I always try to park in designated moto spaces, but now I know to take up the whole damn spot if I'm parked in a car spot.

Good luck with the insurance on that one...

I went for a cruise down Highway 1 south of Santa Cruz today. Rode around Elkhorn Slough, saw a bunch of white and grey Heron, and got some photos for a class project. The bike performed great (for a 40 year old who has sat in the rain for the last 2.5 years) and I even found a good way to hold my camera bag and tripod! Psyched.

Don't take the insurance co estimate. They tried that #$%* with me. I called the state insurance commissioners office and got an education. State law (in arkansas anyway) says that they have to put you back like you were. Not close or kind of like... They have to return your property to the way it was prior to the incident. When you tell them that you have been in contact with the ins. comm. office their demeanor will change. They get way less pushy. Mine was a jeep and they wanted to give me 3 grand for a 5 grand jeep. I drove around town and photographed jeeps like mine and price and brought them to the adjuster. We ended up meeting in the middle.
