Living in Colorado I have no need to haul 30# of gear, so what do I get? Bonus points for living here or a penality? Have a trip on deck this weekend for Mt. Evans, haven't been up there since I was a kid, I will be sure to bring the camera. It's been years since I've been over Red Mountain Pass, maybe next summer? Used to run over Independence Pass one to two times a week for work but haven't made that one on the bike yet either. I think next summer they could both be on the same trip, sounds like a plan!

Greetings from South Africa

Took her on a 150mile ride today, kinda a shakedown after rebuilding the engine , when i realized i don't always have to do a huge trip to see the beauty around me, a kinda woods for the trees thing.

 Utterly fantastic day.

Tx guys, was a very nice day, the camera is just e71 cellphone...

As for the chickens (taste like steak) , they're not the problem , its the baboons you gotta worry bout, as people feed em which can make some quite aggressive, I took this ,quickly not wanting to dismount, lest him and his gang wanted to customize my bike ;D

Well just got back to the house. Rode about 150 miles today on my K6. The photo's Im stopped at a rest stop along Hwy 52 and Pilot Mountain is in the back ground. The other bikes are a Honda Shadow and a Ducati and of course my CB. The last pic is of the bike parked at the entrance of Pilot Mountain State Park. Pilot Mountain is not far from Mount Airy, N.C. You know Mayberry where Andy, Opie, Aunt Bea, and Barney live. My 750 ran great. Cruised around 65 and 70 the whole way. Wanted to take some more pics, but the camera went dead.

This weekend took the K4 to Winter Harbor, Maine with a friend riding his VStrom. On Saturday went to Canada (Campobello Island and Deer Island) and rode back to Boston today (Sunday). 850 mile round trip. Today was 93F on the highway  :-\. Here are the photos;

First stop was the infamous topless coffee shop on Rt 3 in Maine. Very disappointing!

We then crossed this bridge built in 2003 after the existing one was found to have structural defects. Observation tower is 3rd highest in the world and highest in the Western Hemisphere at 400 ft.

Old and new

View from top

Finally arrive at Winter Harbor..

they catch good lobster here

Saturday morning - some lobster boats

found some dirt roads - the K4 handled it easily!

Passed the giant Blueberry - you can see the blueberry bogs at the roadside

and went to Lubec - easternmost town in the US

More dirt roads on Campobello Island (Canada)

and lighthouse at the top

which is cut off for 8 hrs at high tide

Some old boats

which were down this dirt road

waiting for the ferry to Deer Island (Canada)

on the ferry...

lunch at the 45th Parallel, Deer Island - good fish and chips

'

and then quick tour of Deer Island

before crossing the beach to wait for another ferry back to Eastport, Maine

and then more dirt roads...got to love Maine for that ;)

Riding back home I took Rt 117 S via Winthorp ME down to Sebago Lake....as I passed Sebago lake and found a friend

and lots of quiet country roads - think this is Rt11S...took a lot longer than I thought...passed a serious motorcycle accident on RT 11S that had just happened - female rider was on side of road by her bike and local firemen were lifting her onto a stretcher as I passed...not sure what happened but looked like she lost control on a straight section of the road and ran off the road...she was conscious as I passed....later on I passed a car accident that also had just occurred.....

before the traffic on the highway in the hot sunshine  :-\

Bike ran great all weekend  ;D ;D

cheers
Andy

Looks like a great ride Andy!  I hope to take the CB500 up to Acadia this fall, and this next summer I want to ride to Nova Scotia and Cape Breton, and Maine's coast will be a part of that trip too.  Maine is great and if you get a little inland it's pretty rural.

Another great SOHC tread, all kinds of places I'd love to see and great bikes too!  :)

This weekend some friends of mine and I tackled Mt. Evans and wow it was great! If anyone is coming out this way looking for a great ride and you don't have a problem with altitude, this ride is a must. I wish I had got some more pictures but traffic was pretty heavy and once you start heading up the mountain there really is no side of the road to stop on.

The first is the sign at the top, 14,130 feet, like I said it's up there!
My bike at the sign.
My bike along with the other guys I rode with.

I must say, even the other bikes with fuel injection were sucking it pretty hard going up. I wish I had a gear before 1st, maybe 1/2 gear?  :) Saw some guys on Harley's up there, can imagine how those low revving big cylinder beasts ran.
