OEM WIRING HARNESS (for CB750K2) -missing connectors??!!
« on: October 05, 2005, 05:43:08 AM »
Hi all,
I bought a brand new pattern parts WIRING loom from David Silver Spares for my CB750 K2 rebuild project and was excited to hook it all up and have some electrics!  However it seems to me, that Im missing something....there are only two connectors (shown by red circles in photo below) at the battery end - these would be for the alternator connector and the other for the rectifier? Therefore Im missing the "red" connector for the safety starter red connector AND the fuse box connector!!

I have a second spare NOS harness that has the "missing" connectors so Im thinking something really is missing with OEM harness...plus both my K4s have the "missing" connectors in their wiring harness. HOWEVER, the K5 parts book does show a harness with only 2 connectors at the back so Im a little confused.

Can anyone shed any light on the differences in wiring harnesses and why the OEM appears to be "missing" connectors!!??  Maybe its just me doing something stupid....help!!!

cheers

Didnt think K2 had the safety start module and it only had a single fuse so are you sure you have a K2?

Hey Bryan,
Now thats interesting! I have been comparing the wiring to my other bikes (both K4s) and so assumed it had a saftey starter but the battery cage I have didnt have the attachement point for one so i swapped out the cage for one that did! If its true that I dont need a saftery module for the K2 then so much the better :-) Yes I definitely have a K2 as I bought this in 1999. However, it sat for a while at a friends and over about 2 years he stripped it and so Im now rebuilding more or less from scratch so flying blind here.

Is there a K2 workshop manual out there or a K2 parts book? If not Ill email DSS and ask to make sure unless someone here has a K2 and can tell me if these 2 connectors are enough i.e. no saftey module at bottom of battery cage -very interesting!!

I must have the wring fuse holder then as well since my fuse holder has a white  connector attached to the wires....can someone send me a photo of a K2 fuse block with wire attachment please!??

Many thanks Bryan for enlightening me on this!!
Cheers

I bought one (a good reprint) from CMSL about a year ago before starting on my K0 resurrection. It covers the 750, the K1, K2 and the 750P police model. It contains some good diagrams of the harness, but it treats it as a part unit and many of the individual connections are not labeled as to what they connect to, unless the part it connects to is also in the diagram. Handy document to have nonetheless. As I recall, it was about $35.

Check the FAQ,s there is a link to a webpage where the part's manual for the K0, K1 and K2 is scanned and ready to download. I personally think that DSS has sold you the wiring loom alone. The other cables you need are probably independent and sold under another part number, like the battery cable or the ground cable.

Hey Raul and Bob,
Yes DSS did sell me the wiring loom alone and thats all I needed (no parts diagram though :-() for my K2 but I got confused when i compared it to the K4 wiring looms I have already...as Bryan mentioned there appears to  be no safety starter module in the K2 -this must be the same for the KO and K1? And likewise you guys must only have one fuse so what does your "fuse box" with one fuse connect to? Is there a white plastic connector on the end of it or just a wire....anyway Ill go and look for the parts books for the K2 (thanks Raul for pointing that out).

The Japanese chick is doing well...Im now learning Japanaese for when I go back......

Andy, on my K0 there is no safety starter module and only one fuse. There seems to be a slight difference in the harnesses, according to the parts list between the K0, K1 and K2, but I can't say what they are. The part numbers for them respectively are;

K0 - 32100-300-040
K1 -32100-300-050
K2 - 32100-341-000

Here's a pic of my fuse box, two red wires to the fuse. Can't gaurantee this is as shipped, but the harness appears complete and in good shape otherwise. Hope this helps.

Hey Bob,
Thats perfect!!! Just what I was looking for so thanks very much!! The part number you gave me for the K2 harness is spot on (I remember that number from this morning when I went to check the harness). And I have a single fuse holder like you have shown me as well so now Im relieved to know I have the right thing after all!! Thanks very much for clearing this up for me! I owe you a beer for this :-)

Much relieved,
Andy in Boston

P.S. Ill ignore that last comment Raul - somethings are best left unsaid and no words can fully say what I want  ;) lol lol

Here's a few points from the CB750 Comparator I have. They didn't go with the 3-fuse block until the K3, as well as the safety unit:

I couldn't find the correct fuse box for my K1 (the old rubber bodied one I had was perished and the plastic cover missing) so I went to an auto parts store and bought a weatherproof single fuse box that takes modern "blade" type fuses, that are easier to find here (you can buy packets of 10 of 'em from the $2 shops, for er, $2) than the small glass fuses that Honda used, and the whole setup doesn't look out of place. Total cost was under 10 bucks. Cheers, Terry. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Just to finish this thread with an update....last night armed with my new information about the differences in wiring harnesses between the K2 and later models I successfully managed to hook up all the wires and connectors at the battery cage. Very happy now! And Ill be taking Terrys advice and go with the blade style fuse. Quick question though if anyone reads this....at the taillight I have the usual brown, black and green wires for the tailight/blinkers but what is the light blue wire for?? I havent checked the wiring diagram yet but will do so tonight..but anyone know off hand?

Now just need to hook up the CB900 ignition coils once I figure out how to splice the wires to fit the new harness (CB900 coils dont have wires coming out of them like the CB750 coils...just two brass connectors at the back).

Thanks for all the really useful help,
Andy in Boston

Andy,

No gaurantees this will be the same on yours, but on my K0 all these connectors you are referring to are on top of the inner fender. The light-blue wire on mine goes to a black wire with a small light-blue ring near the connector. This black wire runs to the right-rear, as sitting on the bike, blinker. There is an orange wire from the harness that also connects to a black wire with an orange ring and this black wire connects to the left-rear blinker. Again, can't gaurantee this is the same on yours.

Ther safety interlock showed up on the K3. I have just the opposite. I got an advertised "K2" harness off of eBay and the red connector for the interlock relay was covered in the photo. Now I have to get the relay rather than get another harness.
