I'm very sad. I suppose we can't last forever..... I'm watching the 'Prisoner' series right now so this is particularly moving. When it was first shown in England we had just got our first colour tv, so even though I hadn't got a clue what the show meant it was great to see the action in colour!

Loved his car:

It's a lottery dream to have one.

RIP, indeed.

the seven is not only one of my dream cars it defines sports car. can't be improved on. some brit mag did a piece on a replica years back. they musta really loved the show over there.

i'll have to rent the series as i'm not too familiar with it; but this guy had a certain cool way about him. 60's cool is the real cool imo and the brits contributed to that.

I agree that McGoohan in Secret Agent,  like Patrick Macnee in the Avengers was tres cool. But in the Prisioner, McGoohan outdid pretty much everybody. As teenagers, we used to talk for hours trying to figure what the plots were about. It was a lot of fun.

I bought a fairly thrashed Europa from a fellow who raced 7's in the early 70's and got to watch him drive a couple of times. I'm pretty sure I remember that the thing to do was to find a Ford or Lotus Cortina and appropriate the 1.5 or 1.6 OHC engine for use in the 7. I don't think the 7's weight more than 1500lbs, and they looked very fast and cornered pretty amazingly.

"What do you want?"
"Information."
"You won't get it!"
"By hook or by crook we will."
"Who are you?"
"I am the new Number 2."
"Who is Number 1?"
"You are Number 6."
and as mcpuffett quoted...."I am not a number, I am a free man!"

A lot of the 'action scenes' (aka fist fights) were terribly hokey, but the shows intro, which lasted several minutes (and ended with the iconic dialogue) was always worth watching.

And as to what it meant......it's still a hot topic for discussion 41 years later!

I really loved that show. I remember when I first saw the show, I had no clue as to what the hell was going on. I thought the weird balls that acted at guards were very cool indeed. I got hooked on the show and had to watch it late at night when it aired in MN. My parents would catch me up watching the show and yell and scream and tell me to go to bed. I also felt like a prisoner. Somehow that made the show even cooler to watch. RIP Mr. MCGoohan and thanks for the fun when I was a kid!

Oh yeah. As a teenager discovering it in reruns, I thought it was about the coolest and freakiest thing around. There was nothing like it.

I think it's of interest to note that some of the biggest TV hits of late can draw a direct line to "the Prisoner."
Where would shows like Lost, 24, Heroes or even the X Files be without Patrick McGoohan?

"The Prisoner" was one of the best TV shows ever. I would sit mesmerized watching it when it was first on and later when it was in syndication. A few years ago I rented all the episodes and watched it all the way through. It hasn't lost a thing. In fact it made me realize all over again what a great show it was especially when compared to all of the crap that's out there today.

Exactly what I was thinking Bill, they are leaving us and the acting world is replenishing them with many that I am not familiar with any more. :( Not saying that the newer ones aren't good, just that we've had some of these folks for so long and I'm not too easy with change. :-\

I watched 'The Schizoid Man' episode last night. It's one of my favourites, and the one I remember most from when it first aired.
