That was a man with class.

Oh MAN, sure hate to hear that! 88yrs old is pretty UP there on age though. Another Great Actor is gone. I'm starting to find myself at the time in my life where actors and other prominent folks that I identify with, are getting scarce. :(

Khan died? So the genesis effect did not work then. He made a damn good villain. Sorry to see him go.

I thought it was "Rich Corinthian Leather." (What a GREAT band name, btw!)

He was way cool. Sad to see him go, too. :-\

BUMMER!

Super cool dude.....sat next to him at an NFL Hall of Fame football game up in Akron, Ohio back in the mid 1990's. Talked and hung out with us rowdy college kids the whole game. Funny thing was...it was hot as hell during that game....and he sat in the bleachers with us in his white suit and ascot tie....never took his jacket off...but did loosen the ascot a couple times. Had some pics of me with him.....but the funny thing is......I remember he had some funky BO(body odor...LOL). ;D

We also had Apollo Creed(sp?) from the Rocky movies......sitting behind us. Nice guy also....talked a little...was kind of quite.....had his knees in my back the whole game....it was all good though ;D

...have to find those pics

RIP Mr. Montalban 8)

Boy, I really hate to admit this.

khan was not a villain
kirk screwed him

No.  Kirk revived him (in the original series) and Khan re-payed him by trying to take over the ship.

And 333 gets the prize! The enterprise found the botany bay where khan ans his people were in deep freeze. Khan tries to take over, kirk tricks him I think and maroon the botany bay ceti alpha 5 I think.

Wasn't there confusion over the planet later on?  Ceti Alpha 5 vs. 6?  And that was the whole basis for the movie?

Something like that...   ;D

RIP!

*edit* found it on Wikipedia - more useless trivia!

Ceti Alpha V - A barely habitable planet where, in 2267, Captain Kirk stranded the renegade ruler Khan Noonien Singh and his followers.[29] Six months later, Ceti Alpha VI exploded and caused destruction of Ceti Alpha V's ecosystem, shifting its orbit and rendering it a barren wasteland, although it still supported a deadly parasitic creature that Khan named the Ceti eel. The story of Khan's survival is chronicled in the 2006 non-canonical novel, To Reign in Hell: The Exile of Khan Noonien Singh. In 2285, the USS Reliant went to Ceti Alpha V, mistaking it for Ceti Alpha VI, which had been chosen for testing the Genesis Device. Khan stole the ship and set out to avenge himself on Kirk.[30] In addition, years before any of this occurred, Captain Jonathan Archer of the starship Enterprise (NX-01) and Vulcan T'Pol lived here in an alternate future in the Star Trek: Enterprise episode "Twilight." Note: it is uncertain whether Ceti Alpha is the same as Alpha Ceti, a real star system 220 light years from Earth. Under the Bayer designation system, the Greek letter should precede the constellation name, and in the novelization of "The Wrath of Khan", Alpha Ceti V is indeed the form used.

Ceti Alpha VI - Sister planet to Ceti Alpha V. The planet exploded sometime around 2267 and destroyed Ceti Alpha V's ecosystem. The cataclysmic event apparently went unnoticed by the Federation who chose the planet as a test site for the Genesis Device in 2285. The USS Reliant goes to Ceti Alpha V by mistake, not realizing they have mistaken it as the sixth planet, and unaware of classified information regarding Khan.[30]

I think at this pont he would be saying "Smiles everyone, smiles!"

And that soundbite from 'Wrath of Khan' is exceptionally annoying.

I remember! I think YouTube has parts of the pilot as well. Couldn't find one where he's saying "Smiles Everyone" till the 3rd season intro though.

sometimes i do a wiki on an actor, not just dead ones, and although it's certainly not the last word on the facts (always get information from more than one source for important stuff!) you can be quite surprised and impressed by their background.

also, i didn't know till just now he had suffered serious back problems.

Yeah, wasn't he thrown from a horse while filming a western way way back?  Caused him to move with what became his 'trademark' stiffness in his gait?
