Wasn't there confusion over the planet later on? Ceti Alpha 5 vs. 6? And that was the whole basis for the movie?
Something like that...

RIP!
*edit* found it on Wikipedia - more useless trivia!
Ceti Alpha V - A barely habitable planet where, in 2267, Captain Kirk stranded the renegade ruler Khan Noonien Singh and his followers.[29] Six months later, Ceti Alpha VI exploded and caused destruction of Ceti Alpha V's ecosystem, shifting its orbit and rendering it a barren wasteland, although it still supported a deadly parasitic creature that Khan named the Ceti eel. The story of Khan's survival is chronicled in the 2006 non-canonical novel, To Reign in Hell: The Exile of Khan Noonien Singh. In 2285, the USS Reliant went to Ceti Alpha V, mistaking it for Ceti Alpha VI, which had been chosen for testing the Genesis Device. Khan stole the ship and set out to avenge himself on Kirk.[30] In addition, years before any of this occurred, Captain Jonathan Archer of the starship Enterprise (NX-01) and Vulcan T'Pol lived here in an alternate future in the Star Trek: Enterprise episode "Twilight." Note: it is uncertain whether Ceti Alpha is the same as Alpha Ceti, a real star system 220 light years from Earth. Under the Bayer designation system, the Greek letter should precede the constellation name, and in the novelization of "The Wrath of Khan", Alpha Ceti V is indeed the form used.
Ceti Alpha VI - Sister planet to Ceti Alpha V. The planet exploded sometime around 2267 and destroyed Ceti Alpha V's ecosystem. The cataclysmic event apparently went unnoticed by the Federation who chose the planet as a test site for the Genesis Device in 2285. The USS Reliant goes to Ceti Alpha V by mistake, not realizing they have mistaken it as the sixth planet, and unaware of classified information regarding Khan.[30]
