CB350F petcock query...
« on: January 15, 2009, 10:41:18 AM »
Having decided to learn about bike maintenance/restoration 'on the job' (so to speak), I'm at the "fiddling about with the carbs" stage on my rusty old 350F.  While doing this, I've come across a bit of a puzzler.

The carbs (which the bike was missing) are fed by two fuel lines, yet the pet cock (which I removed from the tank myself, so I know it came with the bike) has only one outlet.

Am I, in my unknowing innocence, missing something obvious, or is the pet cock wrong?

Any help would be appreciated, now that I've de-lurked...

The CB 350 F carbs and petcock have 1 fitting on each (fitting on carbs is between the 2 center carbs) Like pictured. I beleive the CB 400 carbs also have the single fuel line.
Did you get the correct carbs for your bike?
The 2nd picture shows the early 500/550 style carbs. These have 2 fuel lines and the screws for the top covers are on the sides (as apposed to the front/back on the CB 350 carbs)

I bet you're confusing the fuel inlet with the breather (or is it overflow?) hoses. I have clarified this in the attached picture.

I bet you're right.

I've been using the Clymer manual for reference and I read the attached picture, which describes part No.36 as 'fuel tube', as exactly that.

With regard to the two overflow/breather pipes I was getting confused with - where do I route them and how long should they be?  The same question goes for the four overflow tubes that come off the bottom of the carbs.

Cheers for your help, guys.

I am using the Part List from the Honda4Fun Web site and the page 44 showing the carburetor is a bit fuzy (little digits are difficult to read):  the diagram you show here seems clearer:  can you send me that page?

Many thanks!

It's a mess of hoses with the 350F. You have four carb drains, the two you confused for fuel lines, the cam breather hose... maybe even a battery hose. Bleh. So much hose. When I got my bike they were just draped over the back of the engine case. I kinda re-routed and organized mine to the driver's right with some zip ties on the frame... it made things a little nicer, but still a bit of a mess. When I put my engine back in this spring I plan on doing something a bit nicer. I simply haven't figured out what that will be, yet. I was thinking about creating a brass 4-1 pipe that would slide right onto the four carb drain outlets... but haven't mocked anything up yet.

That made me chuckle - when I was wondering where they all went, I thought "Perhaps they just dangle over the back of the engine" !!

Anyway, at least there's no hard and fast rule and I can just go with what's aesthetically pleasing.

Cheers.
