New pipes for K3?

I won't be buying them yet (unless a good deal comes up) but I was wondering opinions on what mufflers I might want to buy when it comes time for replacing. I think the PO put some MAC 4-2 on that he painted black (looks OK and runs OK). I was thinking when it came time to replace, what are your opinions on what I should replace it with? I like the yoshi repros that Carpy is selling, what about HM300, 340 and 341? It sounds like I should narrow it down to the Yoshi and HM300, as long as it looks cool and doesn't cost too much (I am running stock airbox with #110 mains) . Opinions, prices, whaddya think?  ???

HM300s sound very very good - way better than HM341s (i have both). Yamiya also sell a Yoshi replica.....

I guess it really just comes down to the look you're after.
I Have MAC 4-2s as well & I'm jonesing bad for a set of OEMs
They have that cool Ferrari sound and look uber cool, too.
But they're $$$$$$$$
Lots of guys like the Yoshis but they're too loud for me and I'm don't want to have to play w/ the carbs...

Have to agree with Andy...the HM300's sound much better than the 341's.  But that cost is pretty steep.  Do like I did and tell your wife..."one time buy dear!"  If you are not really after the OEM thing then go cheap if you have too.  Just get her done so you can ride like the wind.  Good luck with it.

Not married but I have some spend happy credit debt (motorcycle stuff included) I have to pay down and a mortgage  :-\

I had HM341's on my K3. I put new HM300's on last spring and I'm not going back.

You can guess where my bonus check went... ::)

Just be real sure what you want before you buy.  You would hate to spend that kind of cash and not like what you get.  I do not think you can go wrong with the HM300's considering the quality, look and sound.

I bought NOS HM300's, and they do sound that much better than the 341's. Worth every damn cent.  ;)

I know the 300s should be louder than the 341s but I have two with the 300s and one with 341s and to be honest they all sound the same. Could be something to do with the way my particular bikes are set up I guess. I have a NOS set of each put away and they're the only part of my retirement portfolio holding it's own.

Is there any difference between the newly reproduced 300's and original 300's from 70/71? Whats the deal with unnumbered pipes?

I think I read in a thread that the new 300's were a little bit thicker and came with a warning label.

They've got a warning stamp on the backside, but unless you're really looking for it, you probably won't notice it, as you've got to look through the wheel from the other side to see it...

The new 300's sound much throatier and meaner than the old ones too. A beautiful sound!

Have you ridden behind the bike with different exhausts? At idle, they do sound close, but when the engine is accellerating under load is where you get a difference. My riding buddy pulled up next to me after hearing them for the first time and said, "Man, I love the sound of those pipes!"

They even sound deeper at idle... :)
