Hey,who thinks a 750 Hondamatic is not a ' real ' CB750..well ?

I sense a reluctance out there among the gear-shifters that a 2-speed Automatic ( like mine ) can be called a 'real' CB750 ! C'mon y'all know who you are...say why, I won't be offended!!

I'd love one, the only auto 750 I ever saw here in New Zealand was in early eighties and since then never again. :(
I see a quite a few on this forum in the US and guess that was their best market..........still if I ever find one here in NZ and can afford it I shall be buying it! ;D
I think the thing I most like about motorcycling is the speed at which my brain must process information at to avoid the numb skulls who are eating pies, playing the ukulele, applying make-up etc in the comfort of their airconditioned armchairs as they make random attempts to kill me!!!!!!!

HUSH,
The great thing is you can take off from a traffic light one-handed ( no clutch ). Totally freaks-out other m'cyclists and leaves your left hand to molest your GF on the back !!
Also a boon in commute traffic! no shift, no clutch...

O.frikkin' K., Yes, the auto trans. sucks a few H.P. from the bike, but you can hold the throttle wide-open in LOW up to about 50 and then ( holding full open ) 'click' into DRIVE for the fastest gear-change you have ever had on a bike...and a kick in the ass shift too !!
That's been my exp. of this bike..I would never trade it as it's an unique biking thing...I do have a CB750 DOHC and a CB650 5 and 6 speed also for compare !!!
If your sure it's a carb problem; it's ignition,

I'm surprised these weren't more popular on the drag strip, stick a big stall converter in it and hang on....... ;D

Well I think the concept of an automatic bike was good, and there was a member here who races a CB750A based drag bike who says the transmissions are just about bullet proof, but I reckon the styling was off, and why did they detune them with little bitty carbs etc?

I'd like one, but in a custom frame with a grunt-ier top end, that'd be cool! ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Hey Spanner, where did you get a CB650 with a 6 speed box?
Both my 650's seem to run out of gearbox before they run out of accelerator! ;D

I broke my left arm in a m/c accident and rebuilt one with my right arm to ride until I could pull a clutch again.  I have owned 4 of them.  I had been riding 3 weeks when my doctor suggested it would be OK for me to get on a stationary bicycle as part of my physical therapy.  ::)  Anyway, They can be sluggish if loaded down with a Vetter and passenger but are a hoot if tuned right and stripped down.  It makes me smile to not downshift up to a light and then just wrap around the throttle and go.  I have never had an engine issue with any of them.

Guys, I feel affirmed by your positive posts!!
I won't ever feel left-out just 'cos I only have 2 speeds !!
Hondamatics rule!
p.s. the 6 speed CB650 is an '85 Nighthawk... my fast and furious girlfriends ride.
I'm here to admit she's a faster and better rider than me!!

Its a Honda 750 of course, but its like buying an automatic transmission Porsche instead of a manual or  an electric powered bicycle rather than a pedal bicycle.  Not the same experience.

2 things I don't like about the A.  Less engine braking for twisty roads.  High idle makes slow speed intricate navigation difficult.

Ran into a guy a Bonneville in Sept.

He told me the only reason he went was cuz he saw my thread on going to the Salt Flats.. he had just gotten an old Auto 750.
I think he might have gone to a smaller sprocket cuz it fit..

but.. he did say that his gearing caused him grief. It didnt sound bad till he mentioned a 60  or plus on a hill you cant shift down.. :o

He came from Davenport IA to Utah, guess there are a few hills, last part of the trip..

I have a 78 cb750 hondamatic, its the one as my profile pic. absolutely love the thing, i was born with a hand deformity on my left hand so its perfect, granted i would like to get something newer/faster, but i would need to modify the clutch lever in order to so. i turned mine to cafe even though it is slow. i just love that style of bike.

That 750A on Craigslist, send it to me and we can put a 1 in front of that $2000, they are seriously rare here in NZ.
