Hi all, new to the board and it is quite interesting. I just picked this bike up today. 10,339 miles and only rode once in the last 18 years. The original owner since new, he tried to start it this summer but had #3 carb pukeing gas (imagine that) Came with a clymer manual owners manual, sissy bar, even the tool kit. Shes rusty and faded but I think she will live. I like the look of some of these bobber project as well as a few of the cafe bikes. Was thinking of a bobber but the kits Ive found to weld in seem to go up to a 76, and maybe this old gal wants to be stock, damn now decision tim. I am going to pull the tank and carbs and get her running first and take it from there. Last winters project was a 1980 fxs, complete strip down, paint and motor gone thru- new pistons, powder coat etc. I will be looking for your input. I will take some better pics as I progress............later luder

i know the feeling. just got mine about a month ago and i cant decide what im wanting to do with it. love the bobbers, but also love em stock. maybe somewhere between the two...
but anyways good luck. and take pics, everyone likes to see the progress.

A couple hours later,tank looks clean-FULL of rotten gas. She came apart pretty easy as Ive never taken one of these apart before, Im sure problems will come later carbs look pretty good now for the cleanup. yeah maybe a half bobber kinda hate to cut the frame as someday I will sell her and someone might want her stock............so if a guy could put her back together that way it might pay. By the way $150.00 bought her and I also got a new cover for it thrown in. Im a one man body shop so we will be playing a little most every day, later luder

OK Im done for now The original owner says-leaks 3 rd carb when he tried to start her this summer, small tube between 3 and 4 was split - all tubes hard as a rock- I believe those are overflow tubes, this might get a little more simple than I thought I will take the carbs home tonight and take them apart-maybe unless the other half says stop that- I really think that this girl might run without a lot of messing around. Sure wish the chrome and such was not pitted as I am starting to think I might put her back to original-come to think of it- I got out of high school in 1977-#$%* Im an old fart-but I do have the old harley. In 76 I had a suzuki gt 550-bought a new 82 virago-love the v twin. Had a guy stop at my shop tonight and say you want to sell her-and I said not yet he said that was his dream bike back then. We will keep you informed on the progress, as we have to hear her run before we get any farther----later luder-------------by the way I didnt tell the other half as she does not even get on the low rider...sunny side up.......

you're in the same place i am. got her stripped down in the living with the carbs apart. only its been sitting like that for a week now. the perks of bachelor life...

Fuzzy yeah the shovels cool fun to putt around on to (she get a few looks) cb I dont think the gf would let me play with bikes and such in the house, wouldnt want to anyway she would have me doing something else,lol. So we work at my shop sucking a few suds and such. Heres the carbs notice the black crossover tube split. Lets see what we come up with later...........luder

are we having a race? i pulled the exhaust and got the carbs cleaned up last night... looking good man. i cant decide exactly where im going with mine either. would like a bobber but just cant bring myself to cut on the frame just yet...

Just sandblasted the frame,nice day in Wisconsin. I will blast the swingarm,brake stabilizer, and the side kickstand yet. She will be painted before I go home tonight, was thinking some crazy color as I have lots of leftover cans here but Im thinking satin black, yeah maybe a mostly black bike again......later luder

Some of mine were missing (previous owner), ordered 3/16" (.187") steel ball bearings from McMaster-Carr. A bag of 100 was like $5.

Thanks art, Well her she is this morn, epoxy primer followed up with ppg DCC Black urethane with a touch of flatner, temps are suppose to drop later today so we will see if I can get the center stand,chain gaurd, brkts,and such blasted later. Well if not theres plenty of other stuff to do, later luder
