Recommendations for muffler packing material?
« on: January 21, 2009, 11:12:55 AM »
The recent thread regarding previous owners putting odd things on their bikes (putting a FRAM oil filter in a straight pipe megaphone for muffler packing) got me to thinking about my XS650 cafe bike dilemma.

It's way too loud.  Especially when I get on the interstate, earplugs are a NECESSITY!  It's embarrassing to ride around town at cruising speed next to other vehicles because it's so obnoxiously loud, and when I tell my friends that I'm gonna ride the cafe on a group ride, I can hear them start to groan.

The only issue is I really like the look of the current mufflers on the bike (they're basically straight pipes) and the only alternative I have are some big honkin' Road King mufflers which weigh a ton and just don't look right.  So what can I use to pack the shorties to get at least SOME muffling effect?  Any recommendations?
