Bike to be auctioned for Cancer fighter benefit KZ400
« on: January 21, 2009, 08:57:17 PM »
Here is the Auction listing:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&_trksid=p3907.m32&_trkparms=tab%3DSelling&item=120372915186&viewitem=

Just figured I would share a little project I am working on with some guys at work.  Their kids play on a football team and one of the dad is in a fierce fight with cancer.  We decided to churn up a bike and auctionit off as part of a Beef and Beer night around Feb 6th.

You can follow the progress of what we are doing here:

http://www.armbell.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=8935&highlight=&mforum=kz400

The bike we found for the right price, but turns out is needed more than what we thought.  It is getting a mini-restoration.  For those who don't know what a KZ400 looks like, this is what we are trying to acheive.

If anyone went over to check the thread, we had the bike torn down to just a frame about two weeks ago.  I am happy to report she now runs!

This bike will be listed on ebay this Friday and we will be holdong the beef and beer Feb 6th.  It will be nice to see how it ends.  Anyone here looking for a twin which has been prepped for Spring?

Please let us know when the auction is listed and provide a link to the auction, or an item number to the auction.   It will be interesting to see how this turns out.

We ran into a problem with the fellow who was supposed to list the bikes we are auctioning off, and it never happened.  I had to schedule the KZ400 to start tomorrow and end for our event Friday.  I then listed the Ninja today and it will end on Saturday.  Anyways, just wanted to update everyone that the Ninja is up here:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=120372817772&ssPageName=ADME:L:LCA:MOTORS:1123

I will update things when the KZ400 is listed

Yeah, it warmed up yesterday to the mid 40's!  He was probably a bid cool in just a tee shirt, but it has been worse.  Snowing again today, but supposed to be in the 50's over the weekend.  I need Spring to get here and stay.  I get depressed when I can't ride.

Okay I am throwing my name in the hat to see if I get outbid.  If I win, hey, it's tax season and I am getting my return on Friday.  Won't be able to drive to get the bike for a while.  That's quite a ride for me...  but, it's all for a good cause.  I'll find a way to come get it if I win it.

Thanks on both accounts!  I appreciate the bid as well as the sticky suggestion.  It's only a 3 day auction so we won't be starring at if for too long.

I've passed these threads around to Gary and other involved.  Your comments mean more than you think.  Cheers to you!

You might want to put the auction address in the 1st post so people don't have to scroll down.  Good luck on the auction.

Thanks for the suggestion.  I added the link to tha auction to the first post.

I agree, the bike should get more.  I beleive it is better than the one you referenced since out seat is new, neack bearings are new and every nut and bolt has been gone over.  We are also closer to the spring time with each passing day, so value should be rising for a turn key bike.  Lastly, it's a good cause.  All three points add value above and beyond the other unit.  Plus I think ours looks cooler!

It will be neat to see which bike brings more, our Ninja or the KZ400.

Another one Item 180320188103  recently sold for $940 as it just rolled out of a barn!

I am confidedent that yours will fetch more.  Earlier I referenced the first completed auction I could find with a KZ400 after vary litle searching.  That will make a fine bike.  Back when I had a KZ440LTD, I had 2 400s I hoped to be able to use as parts.  Nothing really worked for my 440.   I guess way will lead to way because I would have never put the 550 on the road if I could have found the parts to my 440.  Totally off topic though.

My original point is that this is a good bike.  Wish I still had those 2 parts bikes now.

Ebay just pulled the listing!  They cited "Inappropriate Item Description"  The Ninja is still up, and I was able to mod one pic I was hosting.  It's a shame as the event is tomorrow night and now we've lost some momentum.  I'll recover, but you guys may be looking at another post for a week or so.  Thanks!

Bummer man!

Some f*cker had to have reported your auction because ebay doesn't just take them down.  There's nobody at ebay who screens auctions.  I would suspect that someone who got outbid (and wanted it cheaper) or someone who is trying to sell the same bike reported your auction.

If you need some help listing another auction, please let me know as I am handy with web design.

We will be looking for the next auction.  They allow you to do a 24 hour auction, but you cannot edit it because auctions can't be edited within the last few hours.  It's an option though.

Edit:  My guess is the guy who is asking $1999 with no bids reported your auction  280309207953

What was the highest bid when the auction was canceled?  You might want to consider doing a 24 hour auction with a buy it now option.  The buy it now option should be what you want to get out of the bike.

I like the idea about reposting it with the 24 hr options and a BIN options.  The last bid I had that I checked was somewhere in the $900 area.  I guess I should throw it up with an opening bid of $1000, What would be a reasonable BIN price?

Just tried, can't do a 24 hr auction for this one.  I'll list it again on Sunday if this does not sell.

I still would not mind hearing what might be a good BIN number.  Anyone?

Dunno what a good BIN price would be because I haven't been in the market for this bike to see what they are going for.  Kind of curious why they won't let you list a 24 hour auction.  Odd.

I've heard it said before that the market for these bikes is not that well knownl enough to speculate on price, but here is really what I am asking.

What would be a realistic price somone is willing to spend for a bike if this size and vintage (whether it be Honda, Kawi, Suzuki or Yamaha) that is ready to ride.  I think some factors like many of the new items and maintenance this bike has had, the fact that it is sound, runs very reliably and does not leak gas etc all are value adders.  Since bikes which are reasonably complete, but require this usual maintenance sell for $5-800 on ebay I'll begin to do some math.  Tires mountd and such + $200.  Chain and sprockets + $100, Recover seat +$100, neack bearings +$50, battery +$50, exhaust +$200.  So I think any bike with these items recently done should be worth $12-$1500.  Labor is subjective, be we really did go above and beyond to make sure the bike is right, with every nut and bolt taken down, frame painted etc.  I would say that is easily a variable of an additional $3-500.  So anywhere form $15-$2000 is my take regardless of specific make or modlel.

That's pretty much the purpose of the BIN, to ask what you would really like to get for the item.  That fool that started his at 1999.99 doesn't have 1 bid.

Good news!  The benefit went very well last night.  Although Gary was unable to be there due to his ever changing health, but we did have him there via a web cam.

The KZ400 was sold.  One of Gary's brother-in-laws was following the bike story and how the listing got pulled form ebay.  He said he would like to own the bike.  Gary has a big family and we thought it would be neat for the bike to stay in the Seeburger family.  The bike was sold right within the range I posted and stays in the Seeburger family!  I don't think I could have writtern a happier ending.  Thanks for all of the encouragment.
