bryan, thanks. I am not following you throughly.
The nipple is positioned under the swing arm. So it is a push in mount or threaded mount.

Where can I find a replacement?

Typically, they screw in.  Good luck.

Did it break off, or fall out?  If it broke, make sure to get the stub out or your grease isn't going anywhere.

The stock zerks are pressed in.  Replacements will be larger and will screw in.  I have pics from when I did mine somewhere, I'll dig them out tonight.

If you have a Tractor Supply you can get the metric ones, which are the closest fit, can't remember the tap and drill size, I think they were 5 or 10 for $3, not hard to do, a nice easy project.

hey DN, I dont have a tractor store here in NYC.  :D

The nipple broke off, I will take to pull out the remainder before sending out to powdercoating. I will try the local store. I can always tap a new hole for a screw in. Thanks for the help as always!

Start:

Pulled nipple off with vice grips.  (wince)

Drill to size appropos of tap.  Coat drill with grease to catch chips:

Tap, again with grease to catch chips:

Tapped:

New zerk:

Installed:

Afterwords, I pulled the pivot bolt out of the swingarm and pumped a bunch of grease through both sides in order to flush the few tiny chips of metal that inevitably ended up inside the bolt.

cheers

Very nice write up, problem is on the 76 the grease nipple is under the swing arm into the centre of the swing arm cross tube not the pivot bolt.

I thought they were screwed in and you should be able to get one from Honda

I was looking at that mistic and saying that was pretty cool mod.

Yes my nipple is mounted under the swing arm in the middle. I could easily just remove whats in there now and tap the hole.

On mine the nipple is under the swingarm too. Why is it I never succeed to get grease in there?

Off topic, but if someone has a dual zerk bolt please let me know. HondaMan is rebuilding my swing arm and would love to pay someone for one.

On that design, when you're pumping grease, you're trying to force it from the center of the swingarm all the way down to both ends of the pivot bolt, at the same time.  On the dual-zerk design, you're only needing to move the grease a few inches, and you're only pushing against one column of grease.

In older bikes, the grease in the passages is likely old and cruddy, so when you try to push in new grease, the old grease is blocking things up.

I do believe Hondaman covered this in the FAQ section somewhere.

I recently replaced my swingarm bushings and when I was pumping grease through one of the zerks, it built up enough pressure that the zerk on the opposite side popped out of the pivot bolt, with a bunch of fresh grease oozing out after it. I had thought each zerk only provided grease to one size of the swing arm and that the two sides were not connected. My experience suggests otherwise. Just thought I'd point that out as it seems some people think the zerks are independent of each other.

With the one zerk popped out I'll be drilling and threading the bolt and putting in some newer zerks I guess. Probably should have done that when the swingarm was off anyway.
