« on: January 24, 2009, 07:54:28 AM »
hello i broke a piston ring on my 82 cb650
cant remember which one as dont have the engine here at moment
but was wondering if i can order piston rings just for the one piston and reuse the other ones if they are still in spec,,
or should i just anty up the $30 dollars for each piston and do all,,
also any ideas where one could find set of  allen key head bolts for same bike,,
thanks for any input,,

I don't think you can buy just one ring anyway, but it's good practice to replace all, at least on the same piston....and while you're there, you should do all four.

Make sure you take time to do a little measuring though, like bore specs and when you get the rings, the ring end gaps.

If you do a search on the subject, you should find lots.

i meant all 3 rings on one piston,, and leave the others if they are within specs,,
and maybe quick honing of cylinders,,
would this cause and probs,,
but i suppose your right and should just spend the extra 100 bucks and get sets for all 4
besides i think the ones im gonna order are 1 piece oil rings and these ones are 3 piece so
might as well have all 4 the same..

also any information on fitting an oil cooler to this bike would be appreciated

I would think if you replaced the rings in one cylinder it would be out of sync as far as wear rate with the other cylinders and as far as the allen screws http://www.z1enterprises.com/SearchResult.aspx?All=True&KeyWords=cb%20650

I just ordered a set of replacement bolts from stainlesscycle.com but I dont think they are all Allen. Like $35 for the set delivered.

The 650 never came with one piece oil ring so you will get 3 piece whatever you order ( unless its an aftermarket thing?)

ya these are oem rings i checked out from honda about 2 weeks ago, the guy told me they are one piece oil rings,, but he could be wrong cause i called him today to order some and now this other guy says there are discontinued and only one set available....
wtf...

ya moham,, let me know when you get those if they include head bolts,,,
cause i looked at that set too ,,but seemed to me didnt include head bolts just bolts for various covers,,
