Ive travelled a couple of times overseas with my CB750K4. I dropped it off in Newark, NY - really the only port on the East coast you can do roll-on-roll-off (cheapest way). (i dont know about shipping from Newfoundland or Halifax though - possible - contact Wallenius Willhelm (
http://www.2wglobal.com/www/wep//) - these guys are one of the biggest shippers in the word and who I used....You can ride up to the port and leave bike there. I am sure they must have an operation coming out of Halifax.
Cost for one way in 2001 and 2003 was $700. My friend in Munich shipped his chopper from Newark to Hamburg, Germany in 2005 and I think it was $650 (one way). Dont forget you will have to pay another (~$100) in port fees at the other side though this may depend on the port - in Southampton, Uk this was the case for me. Travel time for ship/bike is about 16 days.
I would absolutely recommend riding in Europe!! Especially in the Alps where there are some of the best roads in the world (and no thats not an understatement). Of course there is plenty more to see and if you had 1-2 months it would be a great trip.
You can use your American license and USA plates for up to a year in Europe though may be a good idea to go to your local AAA office and get an "International Licencse" - very easy. No visa required for you if you are American. Just take the usual stuff - title, registration and check out local customs regulations (i..e you will likely require insurance).
good luck
