That style is widely available. Works good for cruisers/Harleys as their pipes hang off the side. Ours go underneath and make those types of lifts inconvenient.

I do not use them, to skeery for me.  Will always feel the bike will fall off.  And, 2nd gen ventures may use them but they mod mounts to make them work to go around the pipes.
I don't have a motorcycle, sold it ('85 Yamaha Venture Royale).  Haven't had a CB750 for over 40 years.

I've thought about something like this as well.  How do you remove the wheels?  What if you need to pull both wheels?

I bought one for my father in law from Sears (nearly identical in design), and it works great!
It cam with ratchet straps to make the bike more secure.

A lift is good to raise the bike over all but a jack is best for removing the wheels. As it is only a little pain, just remove the exhaust first.

Nope, I will not do it.

Wheels can be removed easily with the centerstand for the rear and centerstand/floor jack for the front.  I do this on my VR as well.

I love my low cost floor jack.

There are more expensive ones where the floor drops out.

I would remove the exhaust. Why not? It gets in the way and it protects it as well while you are working on things. Besides, how often would you really have to remove it? Maybe once a year if that? Most people would not even have to do it that often, after all, you do not need to remove the wheels every year. besides, exhaust seals are cheap. Cheaper than an exhaust.

That would be like pulling the engine to take a spark plug out.

NEway, there are two things, well many things, at this link that I am interestined in.  The part that fits this thread is low cost and something I would like to make work on the k5.

You can remove the wheels too.  I want to loose the centerstand on the k5, tooo big and bike is getting low.

Not at all. When doing a lot of work, you have to do it around the exhaust. Maybe not an issue with 1 pipe but 4 take a lot of room. Many times have I wanted to take them off. Makes getting to the swangarm easier and centerstand and a lot of other things easier. I dont expect you to do it but imo, it makes things easier.

I have a lift (plat form style) and a bike jack. I havent used my bike jack since I bought the lift.
Check Sears for their bike jack. When you factor in shipping with the Ebay one, it may be cheaper to get the Sears unit.
My lift has a removable drop out to remove the rear wheel. When I want to remove the front wheel I used some straps to hold down the rear(and pull the front up).
My back has loved the lift since I got it. No more crawling on the floor to do what ever. From what I understand, Harbor Freight has lifts at a very good price (if you  have the $ and room).

Yeah lifts do take up a lot of space. I suppose if you get a durable one, you can maybe just park on it then.

Removing the exhaust takes, what, 15 minutes?  If you're pulling the rear wheel, you need to drop the exhaust anyway, or at least it makes the job much easier.

That's how I do my wheels also. Not to keen on jacking if can be done otherwise. For the front, I use centerstand and a tie hanging from the ceiling attached to the handlebar/front fork etc.

Also I have one of these. http://www.baxleycompanies.com/Sportchock.html
Quite nice well built. Holds bike firmly upright by the front wheel. Will also hold by back wheel, but a little assistance needed backing it into place. Great on a track day if you have removed your stands. Can be hung on wall when not in use. Others of similar design, cheaper but not as sturdy.

Lifts are great but do commit some floor space I don't have.

The reason I don't use my MC jack is it is more convenient to use my Sky Hook. ;D ;D ;D  And the Sky Hook doesn't take up any floor space when it isn't in use.

I have had the Sears Model for years. I have stock pipes and if you center the jack under the bike properly you just lift it up. No issue with the pipes. Had it on the jack a whole winter once.

I use the ratchet type tie-downs from the ceiling to lift with, but they are limited obviously. Now an electric motor...I've got to look into that! Sweet!  Is Sky Hook the brand name?

That floor makes me dizzy. ;)

Aside from the fact that it's Chinese and may not be American quality,

THIS lift is on sale for $399.
