Just another Canuk says Hi. Ottawa, Canada
« on: January 26, 2009, 04:34:49 AM »
Hi All
Long time rider here.  Always liked the old CB750's, so I picked up a 77 CB750K for a winter project.  Winters here are way too long, got to have something to work on in the garage even if it is 30 below.

I've been riding bikes for 36 years, damn did I just say that.

Current rides are a 2007 Benelli TNT 1130.  Awesome bike.
Last Saturday I took delivery of a 2009 Truimph Street Triple R.  I want to do some track days with it.  If I use the "nelli" for track days and throw it down, I'll never get parts.
By all accounts the ST3 is a great bike but I'll have to wait 3 months to find out.

Really love this site. It has lots of great info and is well laid out. Lots of old timers with tonnes more knowledge than myself.

Ok ... I'm off to be annoying now.  I need to find out if the exhaust baffles on a 77k are removeable.  The chrome is in excellant shape but the baffles are shot.  If I can remove them I can keep the original pipes.   I can't see a bolt that holds them in place though.

Also I want to put later model forks on with the dual disks and need to find out what years will fit me stock triple trees.

Any way just wanted to say Hi.   Off to use the search function and continue poking around.

Gary

Thanks for the welcome.

Here is a pic of what it looks like now.

As you can see it's rough but a good place to start.

The stock pipes don't look too bad for a 32 year old bike.

Welcome Gary.  In a way I wish my bike still looked like that and held the great promise of fun and satisfaction in the restoration  ready for the road.
I like the modest 'just another canuck' ;)

Gary...very nice looking and nice find for you.  Heck, when you get it all cleaned up that thing should shine nice.  I can not believe you still have the OEM pipes there.  Amazing.  Below is a pic of my 1977 CB750K taken in 1977 just after I had bought it.  Click on the pic to enlarge it.

Cool pic. so that's what a stock, brand new 77 looked like.

Nice bike

Welcome from Whitby Ont. Good luck with the project! Are you right in Ottawa or the surrounding area? I used to get over there quite a bit for work and always loved to hang out in the Market area. I wandered the streets at 3 or 4 am more than once and the handful of folks that were up were always very friendly.

I'm in the east end of Ottawa.  I lucked out an bought the bike local after a fellow from Toronto cancelled a deal on one.  Worked out for the best as this one is better.
The fellow I bought it from is the second owner since '78.

I used to go to the "market" periodically with my old Zed.

Hi - I'm from Ottawa as well, and just joined the SOHC forum, after purchasing a '78 CB750K. Going to be spending the winter doing some cafe mods to it (triple tree, clip-ons, smaller gauges, redoing the seat, etc...). My background is more choppers (I have a 1953 Harley Panhead), but I have had a few cafes over the years as well. Hopefully i will run into you around town once the weather is nicer again.
