Save the CB350F exhaust
« on: April 15, 2005, 03:01:47 PM »
I bought a '73 CB350f with 2600 miles and a very nice set of original exhaust.  There is no rot and very few spots of rust.  Everything I read talks about how the exhaust rust out from the inside and replacements don't exist.  Can someone let me know what is the best way to keep the exhaust from future rust problems?

leave it in the garage and never ride it... it seemed to work well for the previous owner

Hey i am from belgium. I have restored one leftunder exhaust of a ch350F. And the firm where it has being rechromed they said the i must put fireproof paint in the exhaust from hamerite. I do not know if this marque doe exist in america. But i have done it and hope that it helps. Beter then doing nothing. You let a bit of paint in the exhaust held the holes and turn the exhaust until al the paint is on all the innersurface. It sounds rare but it helps they have told me.

Take it off & put it in a cupboard in the garage.  Fit a 4-1.  Worked for me.

you live in a pretty moist climate. (how's that for understated?) moisture will condense naturally inside your pipes, not to mention the fact that water vapor is a by-product of the combustion taking place inside your engine.

ride a lot. and get the pipes good and hot, hot enough to burn out the moisture - with your climate you can afford to ride all year round, no? make it a daily.
