16" rear wheel question
« on: January 26, 2009, 03:06:27 PM »
Ok forgive the newbie but I did search and found lots of references to 16" rims  on a CB750 but nothing specific.
Such as:
-is this just a 16"rim from lets say a Harley laced to a CB rear hub?
-or is this whole 16" rim with hub a direct swap from some other bike?

I have seen some incredible bikes on this site with the 16er on it and I would like to know more.

There is a local fellow with one for sale, rim, spokes and a hub but before I say yes I would like to be informed.  His is somewhat rusted and would require a re-chrome.

Thanks
Gary

they are typicaly 40 spoke Harley rims laced to CB hubs. There may be other makes in 16" but harleys are pretty inexpensive.

Ah thanks for the quick reply.  That clears it up.
Buy a 16 inch Harley rim, add some stubby spokes and a stock CB hub and you are done.

New 16x3 rim can be had for just above $50 at TAS Motorsports.  They have spokes there too for a reasonable price.

The big cost is if you have the rim/spokes laced to the hub by someone else.  You may get charged 3 hours labor ath thier hourly rate.

I think TAS Motorsports will lace the rim for you for about $50.  You send the hub.

Yup, basically just a harley rim laced to a honda hub.  Now if you wanna go fancy, you can with a different rim and spokes like an Accel rim (if they make the size) and Buchannan spokes (pick your style).  Cyclex has them already built for a tidy sum.  It's your pocketbook.
I don't have a motorcycle, sold it ('85 Yamaha Venture Royale).  Haven't had a CB750 for over 40 years.

I've asked this question 2 or 3 times w/ no reply....has anyone successfully mounted the 16" Harley rim to a cb750F hub w/ the 'generic' spoke kits you can get on Ebay?...I really want the conversion w/out spending $100 on spokes from Buchanons

These are $15.  I do not know if there is a difference between the k and f hubs with regards to the spoke lacing.
