Well, My Timing Was Good!
« on: January 27, 2009, 06:16:46 AM »

Hurried back home yesterday from Little Rock (with my Dad), to try to beat the possible freezing rain and slick roads. And I managed to do just that, with a lot of help from above. ;) Things started freezing, just after I got my Dad back to his apartment. I headed to Wal Mart to pick up a few things before going on home (we're temporarily a 1-car family). Late last night (abut 11:30pm) I looked out and the trees were coated in ice. Prepared for the power to go out (never know when that will happen) and went to bed. Woke up this morning to find that most all schools and some businesses in the Western Central (where we are) and up the northern side of the state is getting the sleet freezing rain and some snow. The initial accumulation here is supposed to be only about a tenth of an inch, then we are supposed to get an additional 1/2" on top of that today and then another 1/2" tonight. Just have to see how it goes. I told mt Dad yesterday that I might not see him til Wednesday. ::) All depends on this stinking weather. I know that alot of you all have more than your share of this, and I feel for you, it's just that, for US anyway, the timing of this stuff stinks! :-\  Oh well, you do the best you can, right? ;) Guess I'll go put the trash out, sure as I don't, that trash truck will come AND GO and I'll still have my reash till next time! ::)

Hope you all are keeping warm, Bill ;)

Good luck Bill. At least we can usually shovel our frozen precipitation.. which we are to get a few more inches of tonight.
We'll all be someone else's PO some day.

Thanks Bob, I don't mind some snow (although I wouldn't want a lot of it and I don't envy you all who DO get alot either), but I SURE don't like the sleet and ice. I've already lost some limbs off of a big Pine tree in the front yard, from ice buildup and just a few minutes ago, it was raining really hard while the temp is up to 34 degrees. If we do get up to an inch or more of ice buildup, it's not going to be good. :(  Today will be the 2nd day since I've gotten my Dad up here (in about 4 months), that I haven't been over to spend some time with him. I'm just so thankful that I was able to get him back to his apartment before this stuff really set in. Be careful out there Bob. ;)

                          Take care, Bill ;)

Here's a pic from my outdoor wood boiler, hope it makes you feel warmer!

Man, it was ROUGH here today...  I had to put on a lite jacket this morning to fight off the shivers...   ;D

Nearly touched 80 today.  And of course, none of that gray, lowering sky either - sunny blue skies...   ;D

No wonder there's 50 zillion people cramming into this state.

 ;D

Well we are due for more of the white stuff again tonight...10-12 cms (I think like 4-5 inches?!?!) I am running out of places to put it!

Atleast the snow doesn't usually bring power outages....hope you guys don't have any issues down there.

Dennis

P.S. Can't wait for March and my annual trek down to Fla....maybe I'll see you Kirk?

i'm so glad we get snow only every 6 years or so here. havent had ice storms since 2004. of course the flip side is summers where the temp doesnt drop below 85 at  night for a month.

Well, at least we didn't get what we COULD have last night. ::) The temp stayed high enough (23 degrees now) that we didn't get much more accumulation and they are saying that IF the temp had gone down like they thought it might, we could have been looking at about 4" of ICE mixed with some snow this morning. Thankfully, things don't seem any worse than yesterday. Now, North of us, up around Fayetteville and Springdale (Springdale being the worse hit, from what I've heard) got hit pretty bad. Supposed to be in the upper 30's today and tomorrow and then in the low to mid 40's Friday.

The cold blew through here (teens and low 20s), but no precipitation.  Time to get the cover off the Sprint so I can go teach... ;D
